However, President Bill Clinton signed a law that started to phase out the tax breaks during the 1990s. Once these tax breaks fully expire in 2006, the industry started to leave the island.

Policymakers should consider bringing back these strategic tax breaks...

Yes, let’s base major chunks of our pharma manufacturing in a place where a hurricane could take the plants down for months.

Why Puerto Rico? Why not Oklahoma, Texas or Wyoming? America first!

I’d settle for PR....these vital Rx drugs MUST be returned to being manufactured under USA control....NOT China!!

"Policymakers should consider bringing back these strategic tax breaks"

They could give the breaks to Grand Island, Nebraska...

It won’t be there.

It needs to be several places. Why not West Virginia? I don’t think I have ever heard of a hurricane or tornado etc hitting there and it might help.

Yup. Better than in China but needs to be in CONUS.

And not just in one place either.

It’s like the electronics industry. Machines populate and solder the circuit boards. We invented the machines. The labor involved in assembling a cell phone is mere pennies. So why are the Chinese making our cell phones?

Like the ‘folding at home’ project.

Small easily retooled facilities located in each state. Some states have more than one based on geographical size and/or populatin.

That way if something happens in TX, we don’t lose more than just what TX made. WV and MT would be unaffected for ex.

Why Puerto Rico? Let me count the ways. 1) An experimental $15 minimum wage would be good wages down there. 2) Trump transfers all the Puerto Ricans at Rykers Island there. 3) He appoints an economic Tsar to oversee the entire islands economic development-good preparation for a POTUS candidate(Hispanic). Last it prepares the island for total independence.

I always found wave soldering machines to be impressive, given my own efforts to solder up Dynaco Stereo boxes.

No. Bring production back to the USA proper. Many lives depend on medications and we whould be self-sufficent on such an important commodity.

PR hates us, at least the leaders do.

Not so much after they found the warehouses full of food that was supposed to be delivered to them, but kept by the PR government. Getting the pharma industry back for them could seal the deal.

Who cares if they ‘come back’.

Screw them, they’ve proven they are gullible and untrustworthy.

Someone else said Grand Island Nebraska.

What have we got to lose with Grand Island, for example?

The chicoms wanted the US to be a colony of china. dependent on them for most important things. Like medicines and medical supplies.

the ‘toons wanted campaign contributions and a slush fund and who knows what other despicable stuff under the table.

so, match made in heaven, sorry puerto rico...
