Democrats Craving a Brokered Convention Should Learn the Lessons of 1968
The Intercept ^ | March 2, 2020 | Glenn Greenwald

[conclusion]:

For a party that has spent four years insisting that removing Trump from power is an absolute prerequisite to saving the republic and all things decent in the world, it is bizarre, to put it mildly, to watch them embark upon the one strategy that is most likely to most fracture their own party and drive huge numbers of voters away from their nominee. They have an episode in their not-so-distant past — one that their elders who are plotting all of this obviously remember — which should serve as a very vibrant and compelling warning against doing this.

It is hard to believe they are not aware of what they are doing. Indeed, there’s every reason to believe they know exactly the harm this would cause. That’s why the New York Times’ headline reporting on this strategy made clear that the Democratic establishment was willing to risk another four years of Trump in order to prevent a takeover of “their party” by an actual advocate of the working class and a mild, incremental opponent of corporatism and militarism:

Those are not the actions of a party that regards removing Trump from power as its overarching priority. Those are, instead, the actions of party establishment apparatchiks who far prefer to lose to Trump and endure four more years of his presidency than lose their monopoly over the apparatus of an out-of-power Democratic Party and all the consulting contracts, funding opportunities, and lobbyist openings that go along with it.

And that’s the reason why the destruction of the Democratic Party establishment remains, for so many, such an overarching political priority. It’s hard to see how any meaningful political progress is possible without first removing that rot.

Very insightful conclusion.

And I find this kind of article much more satisfying and convincing given that it comes from inside the mind of the TDS left.

Hopefully someone will deck Jim Acosta a la Dan Rather at the 68 Dem convention.

A brokered convention only because a Palestinian Immigrant shot to death the front runner, Bobby Kennedy.

The US is still suffering from that with various new laws passed in the heat of HYSTERIA back then.

This is the Bernie wing. Yes, they want to tear the DNC down and replace it with socialism....but they do not understand the generational damage they will inflict upon themselves.

I believe that you are 100% CORRECT. Further, I was one of 4 reporters, who were present in Chicago at the 1968 Convention.
(We 4 students were reporting for our University’s FM radio station, newspaper & magazine.)

While the ‘68 DIMs convention was A BIG MESS (ABC, CBS & NBC did NOT report how BAD that the violence in the streets of Chicago really was.), I predict that the 2020 DIMocRATS Convention will be FAR more VIOLENT & will tear the DIMocRATS Party apart & into warring factions for many years to come.

And their radical faction is FAR MORE VIOLENT
today than they were in ‘68.

Milwaukee in July.

PO'd Berniebots
Antifa
Black Lives Matter
Gay Rights Activists
Union activists
Violent environmentalists

Toss in a heat wave, a virus and a power failure.

A lot of factions wrestling for power and control will leave a lot of injured people. Could very well be the end of the democrat party.

It’s an artifact of faking a primary in 2016. They should be furious with Clinton, not bonded to her. She’s the horrible sore that keeps on giving.

And the law-enforcement response is far less resistant.

Hillary will parachute in as a “consensus” candidate if they can’t agree on anyone else.

That would tear the party apart but she and the Clinton Machine that runs the DNC don’t care.

Dangled in on puppet strings because she can’t swoop in on her broom and parachuting in will still be too rough on her fragility.
Carted in like Hannibal Lecter on the box walker.

Great insight. Have you written an article on the topic recently? You should start drafting it. Could be in demand in the days before the convention.

As much as I want the DIMocRATS Party to split into many warring factions, I just FEAR that a lot of people will be WOUNDED or KILLED by the VIOLENT CRAZIES at the 2020 DIM’s Convention.

I truly HOPE that I’m wrong, as MANY of the people who were injured seriously in the rioting in 1968 were NOT even directly involved. = They were simply “in the wrong place, at the wrong time” (for example: deliverymen, bus operators & taxi drivers) & many were ordinary people, who just lived/worked near the DP Convention area.

The REAL rioting/bloodshed was HORRID, despite what the TV/radio networks reported. = To me, as an ordinary college kid from a little rural TX town, it LOOKED like a guerrilla war had come to Chicago.

Yours, TMN78247
