There will always be people in our society who cant do much more than checkout-style labor. I mean no insult by that! They could just be victims of circumstances. And checkout-style labor is honorable labor. Its just that not everyone has the opportunity - or the ability - to become a doctor or a skilled craftsman.
So heres where I have a problem with the author. Where do those people go when checkouts and such are fully automated?
And they are multiplying rapidly.
Based on my experience with a plumber and an HVAC technician this week - you are correct! Also, a a bank teller who thought it was a good idea to count out the bills I was getting on top of the counter and counting loudly.
the same place the elevator operator and doorman went, the welfare line.
Same place all the others went - they'll stay home and get paid to vote Democrat. :)
Exactly. The mentally challenged, especially, benefit from these jobs. BTW, when will things be made right by companies paying them the same wage they would pay other employees?
There are out people here, right here, incapable of selfcheck
Grocery Baggers, allows stores to hire mild disabled and Downs Syndrome people to have a use full job. I look for the isle Lil Joe is bagging when I grocery shop, I know my purchase will be pack carefully. As a disabled Senior I appreciate full check out. You can’t get a weeks grocery on one of those self check out circles that have no shuut for the groceries. Large items don’t fit, nor can you lift them. I can’t lift the items, and often have to have help from a stocker to load the items in the electric cart. And some one to take it and load it in the trunk. Hubby unloads them and then complains his Osteoarthritis ruined shoulders hurt for hours.
THEY GO ON FULL DSSI. WELFARE, AND NEED EMOTIONAL HELP COPING WITH BEING CONSIDERED USELESS.
“Where do those people go when checkouts and such are fully automated?”
They can be employed to dig canals with spoons./s/
Seriously, the author’s comparing excavator to shovels and self check outs to a cashier operator is a poor example.
The excavator is a powerful machine that can with precision carve away tons of dirt in an hour. It’s benefit has more to do with saving time to get the job done faster than it does in saving money.
I personally own a backhoe and can dig a 22 foot deep ditch in about 20 minutes for a cost of about $3.00. I could do the same with a hand shovel and take a few days to do it for free.
The self checkout is just a money saver. It has nothing to do with creating a better product.
The DNC?
That's not my problem...or yours.
