If you have to wait until there is an actual pneumonitis (as characterized by the ground glass appearance on CT scan), it may be too late for remdesivir or other anti-viral medications to do much good. Need a quicker mass diagnostic test and a vaccine. Yet still doubt this virus will cause severe illness in the Caucasian and African populations. Suspect there will be an outbreak in Chinatown and other areas with a high concentration of Asians in the US.
From what I understand, it is likely that the Everett, WA, patient had significant lung abnormality by the time remdesivir was used, yet it still proved effective.
It is hitting Iran pretty hard.
