Top Marine stresses need for more female infantry officers, research on 1-year paid maternity leave

The nation’s top Marine, Commandant Gen. David Berger, took to social media Tuesday morning to stress the service’s “most important matters.”

A series of eight tweets telegraphed a wide range of areas the officer wants his chain of command to focus on in 2020, which includes a push for more female infantry officers and and examination of the cost of one-year paid maternity leave.

Gen. Berger wrote:

“While I am aware of the good work already being done across the force in support of my planning guidance implementation, these are some of my most important matters for immediate execution. (1/8)”

“Review and update any service policies for enlistment and officer candidacy to disqualify any applicant with a previous conviction for sex or gender-based violence, to include domestic violence. (2/8)”

“Identify the costs associated with implementing a new one-year paid maternity leave policy, along with the benefits and risks, and make a formal recommendation. (3/8)”

“Revise the current parental leave policy to include parental leave for adoptive parents, to include same-sex couples. (4/8)”

Why is this happening in a Trump administration? Republicans too busy with the impeachment to pay attention to what’s happening under their noses?

If he is the top Marine, Lord help the Corps.

Women do not belong in the infantry!!!. For many reasons. One very important is the health care considerations. I am fairly certain there are challenges to treating combat injured female infantry that are not being honestly discussed.

Gomer didn’t like the womens.

Really this is just stupid. His goals should be military preparedness and ensuring we win whatever fights need to be fought.

Maternity leave does NOT fall into that category.

Promoted under the Big O

Berger commanded 3d Battalion, 8th Marines from 2002 to 2004, deploying the battalion first to Okinawa, and later to Haiti in support of Operation Secure Tomorrow. As a colonel, Berger commanded Regimental Combat Team 8 in Fallujah, Iraq, during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

While serving as assistant division commander of 2nd Marine Division, Berger was appointed to the rank of brigadier general. He then deployed to Kosovo, where he served for one year as chief of staff for KFOR Headquarters in Pristina. From 2009 to 2011 he served at Headquarters Marine Corps as the director of operations in plans, policies, and operations. In 2012 he deployed to Afghanistan as the commanding general of 1st Marine Division (forward) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Berger served as commanding general of Marine Air Ground Task Force Training Command and Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center from 2013 to 2014. In July 2014, Berger was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general and assumed command of I Marine Expeditionary Force.[8] He subsequently assumed command of United States Marine Corps Forces, Pacific. On August 28, 2018, Berger assumed the billets of Commanding General of Marine Corps Combat Development Command and Deputy Commandant for Combat Development and Integration.

to stress the service’s “most important matters.”

So the Marines "most important matters" are maternity leave and female officers?

The leadership of the marines is fully converged and so the marines will be unable to fulfill their primary function (warfighting).

Anyone who lets their kid enlist in the marines nowadays is, well, quite uninformed, to say the least, and setting their kid up for failure and possibly unnecessary death.
