The only people who will believe an economic downturn caused by this virus is to be blamed on Trump are the lunatics on the Left and they aren’t voting for him anyway.

Maybe so in China, but younger people in the U.S. and most other countries tend to go into more crowds, they commute on mass transit, trains, aircraft, subways much more than older folks, they have to go to work, meetings, travel on business when they have no choice etc etc. While most older folks can just stay home and stay somewhat isolated if need be.

Coronavirus risk for “Asians, Africans, Caucasians revealed”:

based on ACE 2 receptor sites

https://www.eturbonews.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/risk.jpeg

Asians are at the highest risk.

Americans with African DNA are low risk.

The really low risk are the snowflakes from the UK and Scotland.

So my blond siblings, my DNA offspring, grandkids, nieces/nephews with UK/Scottish Genes and African DNA are at the lowest risk of getting infected and have better survival rates, if we get infected.

None of us smoke nor live with nor work around people, who smoke.

Our DNA and lifestyles will either kill us or allow us to live long lives if we don’t do anything stupid.

A good conspiracy theorist would suggest that Rush is in on the “keep them docile” mindset that keeps the sheep calm while the world goes to hell.

Trump can play this in his favor and make it a great re-election point. That we have become over reliant on goods from China, to the point it is a security threat, as these type of virus could become more and more common.

I heard Rush on this topic today. Actually I thought it was odd he would dismiss this virus out of hand...considering he is one likely most at risk.

Then I considered he is seeing some of the best doctors in the world for his lung cancer...maybe they told him something we don’t know or they outright lied to him.

I happen to agree with you MeganC. There’s something really, really wrong happening in that whole cities across the region are being quarantined. All the world is sheep or there’s a tremendous cover-up as to what’s happened.

I have followed a lot of outbreaks here on FR for years. Those that follow this stuff know the numbers a government is reporting are never accurate or in some cases even remotely true.

President Trump isn’t going to be honest on this one either. It is just too gruesome for many Americans to even remotely comprehend. Americans will riot in the streets as access to healthcare or food runs out.

Asian countries have dealt with this and have had their practice runs with SARS, MERS, etc. Americans? Well...we really have not been down this road.

Americans are not going to be able to comprehend it. And that scares me far more than passing away from it.

I love Rush, but he is dead wrong on this one.

The infection rate is high Epidemiologists are now saying that 40-70% of the population of the entire world is going to get it. It is hyper-contagious. (SOURCE)

They are now touting a death rate of 2%. The flu is 0.1% - this is 20 times worse! That is not the common cold friends!

For elderly people, the death rate is 15%.

There are 7.7 BILLION people in the world, so if:

The human race experiences a pandemic like this every century or so. The last time was in 1918 - the Spanish Flu when as many as 50 million died - more than died in WWI. This will be on that scale.

As Freeper 11th_VA has stated very well,
"This is likely to become the defining event of this generation."

Rush has a lot of incorrect information in this article. But this:

I believe the way it’s being weaponized is by virtue of the media, and I think that it is an effort to bring down Trump, and one of the ways it’s being used to do this is to scare the investors, to scare people in business.

is a highly valid point.

Your own personal health, as an American, is not at risk. This disease will spread throughout the world until the weather warms up. Coronaviruses do not survive in sunlight, and when people can get outside, it stops spreading. Why isn't Africa affected?...its summer there. What about nearby Australia? Summer.

Another 2-3 months and we'll be in the clear.

Don't panic...in the long run, manufacturers will have yet another reason to appreciate the value of having things made in America instead of China.

And its another reason to BUILD THE WALL

I crunched the numbers at the CDC website for the past 9 years. The estimates are that in the US, there are an average of 28.6 million influenza cases each year, with 447,000 hospitalizations, and 37,400 deaths. That's a death rate of .13%, or 1 death for every 764 people with the flu.

COVID-19 is far more frightening in several respects. The death rate seems to be at least 2% (1 death for every 50 people with the virus, which is 15 times higher than the flu), and COVID-19 is also thought to be far more communicable than influenza. If COVID-19 becomes widespread in the US, it could have a severe impact on our economy, and completely overwhelm the healthcare system.

I would like to know how sick the people are that were brought back to the US, their ethnicity and did the ones who had mild cases take flu shots the last few years?

Most who’ve died are old men who smoked their whole lives in China.

If that is true, then it may well be that the virus is weaponized, but against their own people.

One of the biggest issues facing China is their aging population, due to the one-child policy.

One way to prop up their economy would be to kill off their (economically non-productive) elderly, in a plausibly deniable way.

I have always believed this, this is an attempt to put trump in a position so they can attack him stating he is doing nothing while the yet to emerge last minute candidate Hillary will offer an amazing solution that all will drool over

>>”...but they did a mass quarantine and shutdown to hurt the economy of the US. That could be.”<<

Not likely. The damage to their own economy would be, and probably already is, tremendous. Plus a lot of Chinese companies are apparently strung out on debt already.

In fact, it’s more likely that the disease is progressing much faster in China than is being reported, but that it’s being played down so they can get people back into the factories.

I’m not going digging for your numbers, but everything I’ve read indicates that your numbers are two orders of magnitude off and that the flu fatality rate is around 1/10 of one percent, i.e., 0.1 percent. Check your source and see if it says 0.079 to 0.090 percent, not 7.9 to 9.0 percent.

If your numbers were right, we’d now be in worse shape than China by an order of magnitude.

>>example:
Hubie reported 406 new cases but 150 new deaths yesterday<<

Though you didn’t show us your calculation, I assume it would be 150/406 = 36.9% death rate?

Assuming that is the case, how does your method work out in the following example: 100 new cases and 110 deaths yesterday? 110/100 = 110% death rate. Some of them died twice, maybe?

Exactly. The market can withstand the news that there will be 2% less people in the world by summer, but it can’t withstand the news that the world economy could be down 10% by then, as it could be if Xi can’t coax his people to return to their factory jobs.
