The 1 thing that might slow down Bernie Sanders is a very, very long shot
CNN ^ | February 24, 2020 | Chris Cillizza,

Why might this work? Because the Obamas are hugely popular figures among Democrats -- especially African-Americans, who would be the first building block of any candidate trying to build a coalition to beat Sanders. Obama left office in early 2017 with 6 in 10 Americans approving of the job he did as president,

Need more evidence of the unlikeliness of Obama coming off the sidelines?

Following a tweet last month from a Fox Business reporter claiming that the former president was worried about the prospect of a Sanders nomination and might well speak out to stop it, forces inside Obamaworld immediately shot down the idea.

Look at it from the Obamas' perspective. They are beloved within the Democratic Party. The former president is writing his memoir of his time in office. They have a massive production deal with Netflix. Given all of that, why wade into a deeply contentious primary fight where you a) know that getting involved is going to piss off a lot of people who presently like you and b) there is no guarantee, at all, that endorsing someone other than Sanders will actually keep the Vermont senator from being the nominee?

On that last point, it's worth considering that while the Obamas retain major sway within the Democratic Party, there is also the potential for a "Stop Bernie" effort led by them to backfire. Sanders has positioned himself both in this race and more broadly in his political career as someone who has always been fighting the political establishment. If that establishment -- panicked about the prospect of Sanders winning -- seems to be aligning itself against him, it could very well stiffen the support for him, making it that much harder for any other candidate to seriously challenge him for the nomination.

It won’t happen. Obama can’t throw his weight behind a Buttigieg or Warren without damaging his brand. He can’t tie his fate to Joe Biden’s. Most imprtantly of all, he can’t risk backing a loser.

Vote for Bernie in the primary if you are in an open primary state.

Socialist vs free market in November.

Why do I find this so hard to be the least bit credible?

I think the plan is to take care of Burney AFTER he is nominated. So the Dem VP choice will be very important.
Imagine the outpouring of grief for poor dead Burney.
His heart just couldn’t take the stress/Sarc

It’s not who is responding to the polls as it is those who are tabulating them.

Because both Bernie and Barry are symptoms, not the cause.

They exist because they represent what most DEM VOTERS actually want to see happen.

Unless the party wants to defy the will of its voters. That did not go too well for Jeb!

If Sanders and Obama don’t both have the Order of Lenin, there is no justice in this world.

The idea that Obama opposes Sanders is ludicrous.

Typical poll bias. A pollster calls a liberal, and that liberal will chat with the pollster all day.

A pollster calls a conservative, and that conservative will hang up on him. After all, we have work to do - cars to maintain, gardens to tend, and guns to clean.

Hilarious.

Cillizza and CNN are looking for The Magic Negro to save them. From Bernie.

The only way Obama would have a prayer of stopping Sanders (assuming he was so inclined) would be by endorsing Bloomberg or Biden and actually hitting the road and aggressively stumping to turn out the black vote for him in Super Tuesday states. Even then, it’s probably too little, too late, plus I don’t think he’s even motivated to stop Sanders.

Lots of white voters too afraid to tell a pollster they disapprove of the black man.
