fficials said 180 coronavirus evacuees who were flown to Travis Air Force Base in Solano County, Calif., earlier this month were released on Tuesday following the completion of their 14-day quarantine. The evacuees, who arrived from Wuhan, China, have been medically cleared, and pose no health risk to the surrounding community, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said.
Their release comes on the same day that another group that was being housed at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station in San Diego was sent home. The two groups had arrived to the U.S. on State Department-chartered flights from Wuhan, which is considered the coronavirus epicenter.
Later this week, all remaining people recently returned from Wuhan, China, via State Department-chartered flights are anticipated to complete their 14-day quarantine, the CDC press release said.
The health agency noted that newly arrived evacuees who were flown to the base from Japan after they were removed from the Diamond Princess cruise ship have been kept separate from the other quarantined groups.
CDC extends its thanks to these individuals for their cooperation and patience during their quarantine and wish them well as they return to home, work, and school, the press release said. CDC also thanks the men and women on both bases and their families for their graciousness while holding these guests.

I hope 14 days is long enough.Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
Some have said the incubation can be longer, perhaps 42 days in outlier cases? I hope all of these people are healthy.
Good News.
Welp, if it’s gonna be Captain Trips, it’s now on it’s way to homes and schools and places of work, courtesy of the CDC. Woohoo!
I think them sticking to the 14 day period is a big piece of news.
So, the case of the guy accidentally released at Miramar was 7 days ago. Do those folks not need another week quarantine?

Some 346 Americans who were evacuated from Wuhan, China, amid the deadly coronavirus outbreak emerged from their quarantine at two military bases in California on Tuesday, U.S. officials say.
The group includes 180 Americans who have been living under a mandatory quarantine order at Travis Air Force Base, on the outskirts of the Bay Area, roughly 40 miles southwest of Sacramento, and 166 U.S. citizens who have been living at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar near San Diego.
“One person from the MCAS Miramar group who is confirmed to have COVID-19 remains under care at a local hospital,” the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a statement sent to NPR.
All of the other U.S. evacuees “have been medically cleared and CDC officials have lifted their quarantine orders,” said Jason McDonald, a CDC press officer.
I think the bases was a good move...keeping them away from the general population...instead of some special ward in a local hospital.
it’s not. We KNOW of cases with a 21 to 24 day incubation period.
Swedish person tested positive today, no symptoms,21 days since returning from Wuhan (on the big thread)
14. 24. At least we’re not releasing them at 3 days.
Ive heard 24. Did you flip the 2 and the 4?
The 24 seems to be an outlier and one doctor thought the patient had TWO infections back-to-back, 12 days each, accounting for the 24.
I hope to hell they’re right.
I’m very glad these people are well, but this is rather disturbing news.
Everything I read says the incubation period for a person is more like 21-23 days - but there’s nothing more definitive.
They are not being wise, putting us all at risk.
*cough*
