A Chinese film director and his entire family have died from the novel coronavirus in Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak.
Chang Kai, a film director and an external communications officer at a Hubei Film Studio subsidiary, died in hospital on Feb. 14 from the virus now called COVID-19, according to a statement from the studio. He was 55.
But Changs death was not the first in his familythe Chinese media reported that Changs father and mother were infected and died one after the other. Chang and his sister, who looked after their parents at home, were both infected with the virus as a result. His sister died just hours later. Changs wife is also infected, still alive, and is still battling the virus in an intensive care unit.
A note written by Chang, said to be his last words, has gone viral on the Chinese Internet. Chang wrote that his father succumbed to the illness on the first day of the Lunar New Year (January 25). My father had a fever, cough and trouble breathing. [We] tried to send him to the hospital but none of the hospitals we visited took him, because they had no more beds, he wrote.
Instead, Chang brought his father home where ha died a few days later, having passed on the virus to the other family members. Changs note said that he and his wife were denied the opportunity to be treated early. Wuhan built a new hospital in six days, but capacity to handle the virus remains strained. Chang bade farewell to his family, friends and his son, who is reportedly studying in the U.K.
Chang enrolled in Wuhan Universitys journalism school to study photography in 1989, and joined Hubei Film Studio upon graduation. The studio praised Chang for his contribution to the studios development, saying that he was a well-respected colleague and his death was a painful loss.
As of Feb. 17, the virus has infected 71,330 70,548 in mainland Chinaand claimed 1,775 lives (1,770 in mainland China), surpassing the death toll of SARS in 2003.
There is one area, that is shut down, but Vietnam has a pretty good handle on it.
Only 16 cases, in the country.
This is tragic. Horrible.
You raise a very valid point. What are the real data?
I remain skeptical that this is a naturally occurring mutation-produced coronavirus. The fact that the Chinese government got so aggressively concerned suggests the possibility that they knew this virus was unique, because they knew it had been manipulated.
Since they died outside the medical system were they counted?Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
2 people in America had it, were treated and went back home.
How many non asian deaths have there been?
Having a hospital with a thousand beds doesn’t mean you have all of the machines needed and antibiotics and steroids.
China’s a communist mess and the secrecy and poor administration of anything has made this worse.
Also I’m surprised for someone who seems to be on top of the news about this virus that you don’t know asians have a gene that makes them quite a bit more likely to get it than us.
Take a xanax and forget about it for a while :)
The fact that the Chinese government got so aggressively concerned
This was exactly what caught my attention and has kept my attention.
An of cover up when a known person and their entire family dies.

What is the Chinese word for Arkancide?
I hope this ins’t true, but you can’t put anything past them either. This video won’t last long no matter what the case.
china’s been lying about all their numbers on this from day one.
they always do. they are godless socialists.
I tend to think, whatever the Chinese government says, multiply it by 10 or 20.
Based on what I’ve read over the years, Chinese are obsessive about family ‘unity’ (maybe even more than Americans). For Chinese New Year, you always go back to the old town or old village, and there is a family get-together. In this case, when the hospital failed to have beds, or the local authority failed to act....the family did the right thing....but appear to all have died because of this.
I suspect there’s no word for honesty in the communist Chinese hand book...
My friend’s brother and sister-in-law have. They caught in the Princess cruise. Her brother is doing okay, but her sister-in-law keeps getting worse with pneumonia. She’s getting treated in Japan, so not doing well and in good care. I’m guessing they are in their 60s.
My friend’s brother and. Sister-in-law that have it are right. I think her sister-in-law may die.
Wish I could rewrite that post. My friends family are Caucasian.
