A solid majority of Americans say they are better off than they were three years ago, a factor that could help boost President Trumps re-election bid, a new Gallup poll released Wednesday reveals.
The 61 percent better off rating is the highest percentage recorded during the re-election year of any incumbent president since Gallup first asked the question in its surveys in 1992.
Meanwhile, 52 percent of respondents said it is easier for them to go and buy things in the stores than it was three years ago also higher than in the 1992, 1996 and 2004 election cycles, when the figures were closer to 40 percent, the poll said.
In the 1992, 1996 and 2004 election cycles, half of Americans said they were better off.

Better off in 1992? Bush lost.
Nanzi would like to tear that up too.
Bush had approximately zero interest in winning.
1992 witnessed a strange phenomenon.
Slick Willie & Co. ran around the country screaming that we were living through “the worst economy in 40 years”.
Whether true or not, the Big Lie stuck. Even though people were generally well-off themselves they became concerned about their neighbors’ well-being, and opted for (there’s that word again...) CHANGE.
You know I am beginning to believe that he threw the race also. Any respect I may have had for any of the Bushes is long gone.
No reason Trump should not win at least the states he won in 2016. Hoping he can get a couple more of the close ones (Nevada, Minnesota, Maine, New Hampshire).
Are the other 39% on food stamps?
“Nanzi would like to tear that up too.”
Speaking of her, I haven’t seen her recently. Is she in hiding, or taking treatment for TDS?
Notice suddenly the torrent of .22 ammo available at a tenth the price (when available under 0bama) the minute Trump was inaugurated?
We have seen only a slight change in income/discretionary funds, mainly due to Trump’s income tax reductions. Not enough to change our spending habits, and not enough to offset the cost of living increases in (for example) groceries, property taxes, and utilities.
We will be going out to eat this weekend (to celebrate a birthday), for the 2nd time in 2020. The first time (for wedding anniversary), we used a gift card. We also brought food home from Arby’s ONCE in 2020.
The retirement and investment accounts are doing well, which does provide a psychological boost/reduction of worry. When contemplating Hillary might win, after 8 years of 0bama, I was VERY stressed.
So the stress levels are lower, which is helpful.
There are probably some demographics that have had meaningful increases in income and/or discretionary pay. Just hope they are saving some, so as to survive the next round of democrat policies to come along, down the road.
More than 50% of America approves of that poll!
