Dick Cavett Breaks Down Why Trump Got Away With His Crimes When Nixon Couldn’t

Oh my God, I’ve made a bad impression already,” Dick Cavett says apologetically after I ever-so-gently correct his pronunciation of my name. When I suggest that I should be the one worried about interviewing one of the all-time great interviewers, he’s quick to put me at ease.

“You’d better put that aside and out of your mind,” he tells me. “I can’t detect any faults in you so far.

I’ve reached the 83-year-old talk show legend by phone at his home in Connecticut just a few days before the new documentary, Ali & Cavett: The Tale of the Tapes, is set to air on HBO. Muhammad Ali made a total of 14 appearances on The Dick Cavett Show between 1968 and 1975, and over that time the the two men developed what Cavett describes as a “bro romance.”

The film, which first premiered at the SXSW film festival nearly two years ago, uses footage of those appearances to tell the story of Ali’s career, with Cavett’s knack for compelling storytelling present throughout. He still gets emotional when recalling the time the boxing icon came on his show after a rare loss and called the host his “main man.”

Over the course of our conversation, Cavett opens up about his relationship with Ali, compares Richard Nixon’s resignation over Watergate to Donald Trump’s impeachment acquittal, and weighs in on the late-night TV landscape more than 50 years after his show debuted.

Dick Cavett and his old show existed to allow people to convince themselves by listening that they were trendy intellectuals.

Cavett broke down nothing. He characterized Nixon as less than manly for resigning rather than going through impeachment and then said Trump’s impeachment is totally different. That’s the extent of his impeachment breakdown. The article concludes with Cavett recounting an instance when he and Trump were at a dinner and simultaneously reached for the same shrimp at the buffet, but both being less than manly, did not pursue it. Apparently, Cavett has serious self-image issues over his manliness and in the best traditions of the soy boys on the left, projected them onto others including President Trump. I suppose that’s a breakdown of a different sort.

Democrats discussed impeaching Nixon in his first term long before Watergate.

With the Biden candidacy on its way out, voters over age 70 are going to start looking for someone else to support.

Dick Cavett is highly regarded by the over 70 crowd.

Thus the Democrats and their “press” are using Cavett to smear Trump.

This Canadian faggot was always a raving Lefty.

He's from Nebraska. Strangely not far from where Johnny Carson grew up.

“Abuse of Congress.”

That’s not a crime. It’s a national passtime.

Nixon didn’t get away with his crimes? Well, whatta ya know?

Not one day in prison, and after his death, a great outpouring of sympathy and understanding for all the greater good he did for America, in mitigating the debacle that was Viet Nam.

So far as Donald Trump has progressed, there is no evidence that the United States or the world as a whole has been harmed, but only benefited overall, both in economics and in international understanding, once again elevating the power and prestige of America.

Donald Trump is the greatest surfer of the waves that come pouring up to our shores every day, and Nixon was in no small way his mentor in how to catch those waves.

That was so boring I never got to the part about why Trump “got away” with anything. What a virtue signaling little jerk.
