Except the Clintons and their influence never left during that period. Gore and Kerry were nominated, but the Clintons were the long dominant lucrative shadow over the Party. Obama won and drew the attention to himself, but the point now is Obama is gone, and both his influence and the Clintons influence in the Party is more or less dead.
Yeah, no party in America is permanently on the outs, but there’s no obvious person to take over after Obama left and Hillary crashed and burned.
Again, no bench layers ready to take over and win. 2024 might be different, but that’s a ways off.
