A guest on Todd's MSNBC show this evening was University of New Hampshire Professor Dante Scala. As they discussed the possibility of mediocre turnout, Scala described the Dem contenders as "B-level," and Todd seconded that emotion.
DANTE SCALA: I think that the problem is that Democrats here in New Hampshire, when all is said and done, they're saying this looks like a B-level field of candidates.
CHUCK TODD: Dante just used the, you actually just used the perfect, B-level, Jason . . . It feels like there’s no star.

My wife and I were talking the night Trump got elected, and one thing we agreed on was that the Clinton’s and Obama had stolen all of the oxygen of the Democrat Party for years, and once they were gone (definitely so after Hillary lost), there was no “bench” to take up the mantle on a national level. Now you have nothing but geezers, leftist nuts or vacuous zeroes.

B level is being generous— a B grade means above average. I give them all a “D” which means below average.

Chuck, it’s not supposed to be an episode of ‘America’s Got Talent’. It’s supposed to be about being a dedicated, truthful, ethical person who wants to serve ALL the public, and who will take the ‘Oath of Office’ and commitment to the Constitution seriously.
But then, you are in the entertainment industry.
Yep, when Swallwell is on the stage you know the field is weak. And now a "mayor" from a small city wins the first state and a nasty Senator who is famous for asking a SCOTUS nominee if he ever Blacked out from drinking is posed to surprise in the second state, yep, not much of a bench.

This looks a lot like our 2012 class. A mix of candidates of different backgrounds and skills but no one who can rise to the level of being the face of the party. No superstars.
