"She told me what was wrong with me. She said it was a rare virus called coronavirus, which slows down your respiratory system.

"I had never heard of it. When I Googled it I was shocked to read it came from farm animals - I'm a builder!

"It was a mystery. Her exact words were: 'You are a very lucky boy to be alive'.

I bet he uses a lot of materials with 'MADE IN CHINA' labels.....................

“Our race is not immune.”

WRONG! He a Brit, not an American.

(that’s my way of trying to rationalize the insane perception that some have, that all is well, nothing to worry about)

Some interpretation on my part here but it appears this patient was treated privately as the story details certainly don’t match up with my admittedly-minimal understanding of the National Health Service protocols in the UK. I look forward to a response from a better-informed FReeper.

Whatever he had in 2016, it wasn’t the 2019-nCoV and wasn’t SARS or MERS. Coronavirus aren’t rare. Most strains in humans cause mild symptoms and no worse than a common cold. Rhinoviruses, adenoviruses and enteroviruses also cause what we think of as a common cold. Complications like pneumonia may be possible in a coronavirus strain other than the ones known to cause severe respiratory illness, it is not common.

"They told me that my organs were completely shut down so they took the decision to induce me into a coma.”

If his organs were completely shut down, he’d be dead.

"It was a horrendous feeling. I ended up seeing a clinical psychologist.” "You are not actually asleep. You are just sedated - so you can still hear things around you.”

If he was just sedated, he wasn’t induced into a coma. If he was able to hear things, he wasn’t in a coma.

I think this tabloid story is a lot of BS.

Builder Simon said: "To start with it was common cold-like symptoms. I was achy and tired but carried on working away.

"As the week went on it became worse and I became a bit breathless.

"But then I woke up of the morning of New Year's Eve and I couldn't even catch my breath.

This is helpful information. It starts as a common cold but it becomes increasingly difficult to breath.

His blood should be tested for antibodies.

Good Lrd. This guy will never be fully recovered, and HE DID GET BETTER. This is a horrible virus. Hard to read at the Mirror site with all the crazy ads. But how did he catch this?
