Rosy polls but few yard signs: How Joe Biden stumbled in Iowa

DES MOINES - In the end, Joe Biden, who bills himself as the most electable candidate in the 2020 U.S. Democratic presidential field, could not convince nearly enough Iowans that he is the best person to take on President Donald Trump in November.

The former vice president came into Iowa’s first-in-the-nation nominating contest looking formidable, armed with high-profile endorsements and strong opinion poll numbers.

But during all that time in Iowa, it was not easy to find Biden yard signs even in the final crucial weeks in the run-up to the caucuses, while signs for Sanders and Pete Buttigieg, who leads the field in Iowa with 71% of precincts reporting, were plentiful.

That disconnect between rosy poll numbers and the lack of enthusiasm on the ground is emblematic of the single biggest question that has dogged Biden’s campaign from the start: Can a 77-year-old white male moderate who spent more than 40 years in Washington excite Democrats increasingly eager for bold change?

For the moment, however, Biden must endure a new round of questions about electability. As of now, his campaign does not have many answers.

The challenges were well-known to Biden’s campaign.

Anyone not in a coma can see that Joe has been stumbling for years, but welcome aboard Reuters, you aren’t called the Lame Stream for nothing.

I sure am enjoying this crash and burn of Joek. He’s been a buffoon for decades. I’ve had to watch this dipchit run his mouth about nonsense at every turn. I loved the time he said that Obama had a spine of steel. In reality he had a spine of linguini. Fade away Joe. Please.

It’s the impeachment, stupid. (Addressed to Reuter’s, not Oldeconomybuyer.)

The impeachment shined a bright light on Biden corruption and rat voters, like rats everywhere, ran from the light.

Impeachments have consequences.

If Slow Joe, can’t win in IA, where can he win? Oh wait... he doesn’t even have Obama’s endorsement. Ouch!

Biden has NEVER appealed to voters. He has run for President before, and the results were terrible. As the article implies, he is an old white male in a party the exalts brown females. He is also clearly going through some cognitive decline, through he’s been weird and loopy for decades. “Scranton Joe” was supposed to be able to beat Trump for middle class white voters. That was the hilarious plan. There’s also the “it’s his turn” scenario; it’s good to see that biting the Democrats. Maybe Biden can go on to do cringe-inducing television commercials about erectile dysfunction after Trump beats him.

Biden was never the most electable... an obvious democrat lie... The corrupt & gullible press pushed the lie because they’re too lazy to walk out into the world and talk to real citizens - - with an open mind.

Reuters buried the Biden Ukraine corruption story, buried the Hunter hooker, drugs, and baby momma story, buried the gropy Joe stories, buried the senility stories, buried the empty crowds stories—and then they claim they are surprised at Joe’s poor performance.

They must think their readers are brainwashed monkeys.

C’mon, Rooters. You’re not THAT dumb.

Look at the man. I mean, just look at him.

He’s like the drooling, senile, dirty-old-man
uncle who causes a stir by having a temporal lobe
short out which causes him to grab Cousin Amy’s
ass during the family Christmas party.

Biden has NEVER appealed to voters.

Excellent point. EXCELLENT POINT!

It's all been smoke, mirrors and propaganda. Like the line they trot out every time he runs that voters in Pennsylvania just have a slobbering love affair with him.

I've lived here most of my life and have never seen that. The best he can do is to have the unions gin-up a rent-a-crowd for him every now and then. I don't think he's lived in Pennsylvania since he was around 27.
