Funny thing, on this website The Andy Griffith show is commonly held up as some great wholesome entertainment but if you just watch the story lines and the blurred morality as well as the pragmatism you can easily track the down grade to where we are today.

I likely will go and read that Chaplin biography now. Normally those types of bios are not to my test. The movie sparked at interest. Early Hollyweird was full of some fascinating characters, and still was Hollyweird. They were just better at covering things up then.
