A group of 88 UNC-Chapel Hill alumni and donors have taken legal action to urge a judge to void UNCs agreement to pay $2.5 million and give the Silent Sam Confederate monument to the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
The group filed an amicus brief in Orange County Superior Court on Wednesday asking the judge to set aside the consent agreement that authorized the deal.
The alumni and donors argue the settlement is a misuse of university funds that seriously damages the reputation of the University, which should be committed to historical truth and opposed to modern-day white supremacy.
The 88 range from 1956 graduate and former UNC Board of Governors Chairman Sam Poole to members of the UNC Black Pioneers, who represent the first generation of African-Americans to attend UNC, to Clay Hackney, a Morehead-Cain Scholar who graduated in 2015 and is now studying at Harvard Law School.

The statue was only paying homage to some of the alumni of the university who gave their lives to protect their homes and farms from the Union army who were running roughshod over the state.
It’s history. Get over it.
They want to protect history by burning it.
They don't care. They are the American Taliban.
“Silent Sam” has always been PRIVATELY OWNED & should be turned to the SCV, as the successor to the UCV that paid for & erected it on the UNC campus.
Further, had the President of UNC had any guts he would have had the vandals, who unlawfully tore down the statue, arrested, charged with damaging property & prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. = SADLY, the UNC President proved to be “a cowardly lion” & GUTLESS.

“UNC Black Pioneers”
“Pioneers” Where have I heard that used before? Wait, it’s coming to me........
What is '88'? The eighth letter of the alphabet is 'H' so '88' is 'HH' which stands for "Heil Hitler"! So the 88 alumni are actually closet Nazis!
Are you saying they are Red Pioneers? But they are Nazis!
Why must there be money involved. Why not just give it to the Sons of Confederate Veterans?
SIMPLE. - Because the VANDALS damaged the PRIVATELY OWNED statue when they pulled it down.
UNC owes the SCV for the damages done to their property.
