'Shortsightedness': Republicans blast Doug Collins for launching Senate challenge to GOP incumbent

Top Senate Republicans are warning Rep. Doug Collins that running against Sen. Kelly Loeffler in Georgia’s special Senate primary could pave the way for an otherwise unlikely Democratic sweep in the state in November.

”The shortsightedness in this decision is stunning. Doug Collins’ selfishness will hurt David Perdue, Kelly Loeffler, and President Trump," National Republican Senatorial Committee Executive Director Kevin McLaughlin said in a statement.

Collins, a Trump ally and part of his impeachment defense team, announced his Senate candidacy on Wednesday. He was passed over for an appointment to the Senate by Gov. Brian Kemp after Johnny Isakson resigned at the end of last year.

"For months, I have given serious deliberation to the role I should serve that would best benefit GA, the country and @realDonaldTrump," he tweeted. "Today, I have officially launched my campaign for Senate to do just that."

Collins addressed concerns that he and Loeffler may "tear each other apart and open up the seat for a Democrat."

"We are not concerned about that at all. I’m concerned about going for the people of Georgia," he said. "We just need to have a process that lets people decide, lets them choose for themselves how they want to see this vision. I think we fought for the president, we fought for our state, and we fought for this country. And we're going to continue to do that. I look forward to a good exchange of ideas and look forward to this election."

Are they struggling with money?

Doubt it.

Thus far, the vote is:
Kelly 1
Collins 0

Another 1,500,000 Republicans will get a vote in this November jungle primary.

And if Kellygirl survives that, she gets to face Gop voters again, 18 months later. The May ‘22 primary.

Collins is running. Great news!

Loeffler will be a reliable vote for K Street and that is what the NRSC cares about. Her wealth bought the seat but really that is just a bonus to the GOPe.

She’s an appointment “incumbent” and has been in her seat for little more than 5 minutes. It’s hilarious to see the GOPe spin her as such.

If she’s GOPe, then McConnell will protect her.

Yes it’s all about money.

McConnell may give Collins the Tea Party treatment.

They don’t want anyone who would side with the citizens, the rule of law or the Constitution.

With 50 Romney’s you could make the argument that Trump could get most things passed. Even so, no thank you. Trump is doing it all on his own for the most part. The new Senators from 2018 are pushing in the same direction as Trump which gives Trump more runway and he needs it. You don’t seem to think having allies helps as long as they vote the right way I disagree. Having more Trump backers in the Senate means more megaphones and maybe, just maybe turn the tide of complete anti constitutionalism in the country.

Loeffler donated $750,000 during the 2012 presidential election to Romney super PAC Restore Our Future.

The financial executive has also donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to former Speaker Ryan’s political campaigns and PACs.

In fact, if Collins is such a strong Trump ally then I would suggest it’s far more important to have him serving as the ranking Republican on the House Judiciary Committee than as the junior senator from Georgia.

At first glance, that’s the way it looks to me as well.

Loeffler was appointed by a governor who owes his election to President Trump’s support. President Trump made it known to the governor that he supported Collins. The governor chose Loeffler. This rarely ever happens in the Democrat party. They always seem to be on the same page about every thing.

Loeffler was appointed to fill about 1/6th of a senate term. How she behaves during those few months may not necessarily be any indication of how she may behave if elected to a full term. We know how Doug Collins will behave. He has left no room for doubt. She has yet to even campaign for the job. She is a “pig in a poke.”

I will send Collins a few bucks and wish him well because of the way he has fought the good fight for my President Trump.

Jeffrey Sprecher almost 65, Kelly Loeffler 49

Jeffrey Sprecher’s Net Worth Is Estimated to Be Nearly $500 Million.

“They...said that...Anna Nicole married for love.” (Shooter)

Not that it makes her a bad person (or does it?)

Before everyone says “But TRump...” Trump and Melania are the inverse of this relationship.

Melania isn’t running for office.

Nobody knows Kelly Loeffler. Nobody has a clue what her agenda is or how she would vote because she has no voting record. This is why I was lukewarm on David Perdue and now he’s a senator and co-sponsoring a red flag law with Michael Bloomberg for God’s sake and no amount of outrage from the Georgia voters will deter him. There is little doubt he will vote for Mike Lee’s H1B visa bill either.

Loeffler”s husband is president of the New York stock exchange so i can guess that Loeffler will be David Perdue 2.0. She is steadfastly silent on red flag laws so you have to assume she’s leaning that way.

I have had my issues with Doug Collins but overall he’s the best choice. So I’m voting for him in the primary.

EXACTLY!!

She will say anything, do anything, now, to get elected to that 6 year term. THEN, when it’s too late, you’ll see her true colors.

Tall, slim, not bad looking, oh that HAIR!, adequately endowed, rich, 10x richer husband. I’d say she has a good chance, for all the wrong reasons.
