Perhaps one reason (Out of several) dems are acting this way is that they wanted to extend the trial in case God required Ginsburg's soul. If Trump was not impeached before then, the optics would have looked to obvious.
Try to extend in the Senate as much as possible to a confirmation hearing for a new court pick. Sort of a backdoor failsafe plan to buy time until November.

Any weak Republican support for witnesses will fade as the Democrats list of witnesses keeps growing.

Kavanagh Hearings Part II. I hope the GOP learned their lesson the first time.

No problem! Your explanation makes a LOT of sense. I had not considered that before. Thanks! :)

This is unfair on all accounts.
The House is supposed to have made its case when sending the articles of impeachment. It is a violation of due process to say “We had the investigation, you’re guilty of X”, and then tell the jury “here’s a few more offenses to mull over, too”. You’re poisoning the well and like a prosecutor throwing in an extra 5 unrelated charges to maximize the odds of a guilty plea.
