What does it even matter anymore? I hope I'm wrong, but it looks like McConnell is letting this one get away, and it's turning into a total cluster****.
Even if Trump really, really wanted to tie Ukrainian assistance to a Biden investigation, and said so, the fact is, it did not play out that way in reality. It never happened.
That McConnell and "his majority" aren't shutting this down straight away means that they're entertaining the unprecedented -- and unconstitutional, so far -- notion that someone can be prosecuted for thinking about or wanting to do something, but not actually following through with it.
I truly can't think of anything more dangerous. Not just for Trump right now, but for all citizens in the future.
McConnell can make this work.
Both sides can call any witnesses they want... 20 hours over five days to question... 20 hours over 5 days for cross-examination.
After a week of their witnesses getting crushed, we get a week of the ICIG, Hunter, Plugs, and Yoyonovich.

Don’t have to.. just ask the question, “Mr. Schiff, you are on the record stating that you do not know the identity of the whistleblower. Can you please tell us what your relationship is to someone named Eric Ciaramello? We have proof of you 2 have had several meetings and we know he is a deepstate Obama hold over. Who is he and what is his relationship to you?”
ICIG Atkinson did. He hanged it to allow hearsay. And he used his office to push the hearsay complaint to Congress because of its severity. It didn’t stay within his department, as whistleblower complaints are supposed to. And, for that matter, the complaint wasn’t about his department, either.
Strangely, IIRC, he was appointed by Trump on someone’s recommendation.
He was also interviewed in the SCIF. Some of the GOP Reps know what he said, but they can’t repeat it. THey have said he was lying, though. And they have called for the release of the 18th transcript. It is the only one that hasn’t been released, and it is Atkinson’s.
He may have CYA’d a little by saying that the whistleblower had political bias, but that’s never been described, to my knowledge.

Not so fast. My understanding is that each side will propose witnesses one at a time, and the full Senate will vote to approve or deny each witness in turn.
That means, if the turncoat RINOs have enough votes to force an extension to this farce with witnesses, then they have also enough votes to block all of Trump's proposed witnesses while approving all of the Democrats' proposed witnesses. Unacceptable!
The only fair way is to negotiate one list of all witnesses, and then vote on that entire list.
