Republican Gary Gates Tuesday appeared headed to a smashing victory over Democrat Eliz Markowitz in a special runoff election for a vacant state House seat in the Houston suburbs where Democrats hoped an upset win would kick start efforts to win control of the Texas House in 2020.
In the early vote, Gates, with 10,707, votes, was leading Markowitz, with 7,461 votes, 59% to 41%.
If he prevails when all the votes are counted, Gates will serve the unexpired term of state Rep. John Zerwas, R-Richmond, who announced in mid-summer that he was stepping down from representing House District 28 in Fort Bend County. The race for a full term in the House will continue until November.

The Dems pushed hard for an upset in this district. Markowitz got 39 percent and led the first round; she’s only getting 41 percent in the runoff. Impeachment is really hurting the Republicans, eh?

They pushed it as evidence Texas has turned blue. I’m sure the media is much disappointed.
The rats spent over a million dollars here, for a STATE HOUSE seat. The Hill of trash was pimping this as some sort of sign that a “Blue wave TM” was on the way again.
Never mind that the GOP has been doing VERY well in special elections this year all over the place, including big wins in CT, KY and PA.

Nice...and now the media won’t talk about it...
First Election day vote is now in and it’s going 58-42 for the Republican as well. This is shaping up to be a horrendous result for the Rats who pumped everything they had into this district.
President Trump won this District by 10. Cruz only won it by 3. This is looking more like a 20 point blowout.
Of course the media will memory hole this.
