French president Emmanuel Macron today launched a furious English language attack on heavily armed Israeli security guards for following him into a French church in Jerusalem.
The 42-year-old head of state erupted in anger after officers broke diplomatic protocol by walking into Saint Anne's, in the city's Old Town, on Wednesday.
'Everybody knows the rules,' Macron shouted. 'I don't like what you did in front of me. Go outside!'
It was an echo of a similar row his predecessor Jacques Chirac had at the church in 1996.
Video playing bottom right... Click here to expand to full page When an Israel official initially refused to move out of the church, Mr Macron said: 'You know the rules! Nobody, nobody, nobody has to provoke.
'We keep calm. We had a wonderful walk. You did a great job in the city, I do appreciate, guys, but please respect the rules as they are for centuries they will not change with me, I can tell you, so everybody respect the rules.'
Video footage of the row was circulated on social media.

I dont really understand what happened here. Are Israelis not allowed in the church?
Seems like even the Globalists have a use for borders and national sovereignty.
Israelis are not allowed into the Dome of the Rock or grounds. Don’t know about Church of St. Anne.
When IDF captured the Old City in 1967, Moshe Dayan immediately handed control of the Temple Mount back to the Arabs - worst mistake he ever made.
“Are Israelis not allowed in the church?”
It’s French territory. You have to play by the rules.
SACRE’ F’n BLEU!!
Israelis are allowed in, but the Israeli government doesn’t have jurisdiction there, so Israeli government officials/employees have to leave if the French request it.
But what are the rules? Is it that they were police or just Israeli. Are Palestians allowed in? It can’t just be French people
As anyone will tell you, arguing with Israeli police or military is a very unwise idea.
I knew a guy who simply made a snide comment and got his visa revoked on the spot.
I think you’re needed here
There is French territory in Jerusalem?
I did not know this.
“Poland is a part of Minehead already”.
Were these forces protecting him? Then he gets in a snit when they enter French Territory and shouts get out.
Article points out Chirac threw a fit and threatened to get back on the plane.
Well, since the Frenchies cut off Israel just before the 1967 War from weapons that they had already paid for, and then proceeded to sell weapons to the Arabs, then PHUCK FRANCE!!!! Why do the Fwench think that the Israelis should treat them well?
“There is French territory in Jerusalem?”
There was with the Templar Knights. Mostly French and they got screwed by both the Pope and King Philip. Actually slow roasted at the stake for those who were captured..
Was just there in October. Beautiful church and the acoustics are amazing. Priest was a nice chap. From Ireland.
I’m glad he and his flippin’ entourage weren’t there at the same time crapping things up for us.
Yep. They don’t play.
Israel honors all kinds of agreements made by Ottoman Turks and other conquerors. These include weird sovereignty arrangements over religious sites.
Sounds like this was just an Israeli security detail that didnt realize they wouldnt be welcome in the church.
I have been to St. Anne’s church in Jerusalem. The site contains the Pools of Bathesda where there are Jewish, Roman, Byzantine, and Crusader ruins. The site was donated by the the Ottoman Sultan to Emperor Napoleon III in 1856. The site is considered sovereign French territory where the French flag flies. There is a placard identify the French National Catholic Church as the owners and custodians.
Note that Macron later apologized. Wise considering this was Shin Bet intelligence security.
Hey, look who’s in Jerusalem...
