Until recently, Hoan Ton-Thats greatest hits included an obscure iPhone game and an app that let people put Donald Trumps distinctive yellow hair on their own photos.
Then Mr. Ton-That an Australian techie and onetime model did something momentous: He invented a tool that could end your ability to walk down the street anonymously, and provided it to hundreds of law enforcement agencies, ranging from local cops in Florida to the F.B.I. and the Department of Homeland Security.
His tiny company, Clearview AI, devised a groundbreaking facial recognition app. You take a picture of a person, upload it and get to see public photos of that person, along with links to where those photos appeared. The system whose backbone is a database of more than three billion images that Clearview claims to have scraped from Facebook, YouTube, Venmo and millions of other websites goes far beyond anything ever constructed by the United States government or Silicon Valley giants.
Federal and state law enforcement officers said that while they had only limited knowledge of how Clearview works and who is behind it, they had used its app to help solve shoplifting, identity theft, credit card fraud, murder and child sexual exploitation cases.
Until now, technology that readily identifies everyone based on his or her face has been taboo because of its radical erosion of privacy. Tech companies capable of releasing such a tool have refrained from doing so; in 2011, Googles chairman at the time said it was the one technology the company had held back because it could be used in a very bad way. Some large cities, including San Francisco, have barred police from using facial recognition technology.

And they are right, 100%.
However, it's important for all Freepers to remind their dumbassed congress critter that it CAN be prohibited by statute.
If it’s digital it can be hacked. Here’s your chance to “build a better mouse trap”. ;)
Blockchain/DLT, coupled with AI, Facial Recognition, Satellite and 5G technology will create an all knowing digital gulag, ushering in a cashless society where every transaction and movement will be made known. If you do not understand Blockchain/DLT (aka...Bitcoin, and all other crypto currencies), you need to take time to educate yourself. Be prepared to fight for your very lives...the time will soon be at hand.
I find barter still works fine.
Wonder how some of the proponents of this would like GPS trackers on their tax-payer owned vehicles?
...there are only two precious metals that will be worth having .... Lead and Brass
I don't see the connection. If I show up somewhere to pay in cash the ubiquitous cheap cameras connected via 5G will recognize me using AI and track my movements just about anywhere I go. But I can purchase services anonymously or get anonymous payments with Bitcoin. I don't have to do anything in person for that. Bitcoin is not particularly convenient for in-person transactions.
In between those two, I can purchase physical stuff online (instead of services or digital goods) with Bitcoin and that stuff can and will be tracked to my doorstep. The government can and has demanded to know data about the purchasers from the sellers.
Not a good thing.
Least of all, because Hunter Biden s likely to maintain something close to near perfect privacy, whereas my comings and goings and all of my transactions, predilections, and habits are likely to be available for public consumption or court action at the drop of a dime. Peasants will lose privacy long before lords.
Marvelous how the 4A and 5A are alleged to be null and void any time new tech is applied. /s
Glad this ¢#@* will not work too well with me, I do not use the App’s it relies on.
some one needs to create a bartering app that connects you with some one who has what you want and wants what you are trading.
an uber for bartering...
“Person of Interest”
like this app will track prince Andrew. sure it will.
You don’t need a paper trail.
Why would I consider an app? Much of the time I leave my phone behind.
"Yeah, I'm ready."
"Yep, let's go."
Wet Burka contest!
The one on the right winked at me. No, really.
