Tim Kaine says he has enough votes for War Powers resolution

Sen. Tim Kaine, Virginia Democrat, on Tuesday announced he has enough support to advance a key War Powers resolution designed to restrict President Trump’s authority to take military action in Iran.

Republican Sens. Mike Lee of Utah and Rand Paul of Kentucky have both expressed their support of the resolution with some changes to the language. Mr. Kaine has been working on bipartisan language for the legislation in a bid for greater support.

“I’ve got 51 declared votes on version two,” Mr. Kaine said. “More [are] considering getting on board,” he added.

Sens. Todd Young, Indiana Republican, and Susan Collins, Maine Republican, are also expected to support the second version of the resolution, according to Mr. Kaine.

Non-binding resolution like the one in the House.

In my hypothetical Amendment, I would do away with "non-binding resolutions."

Easy-to-understand language, two pages, yes or no, three missed votes without a proper excuse results in expulsion, no more than 8 years in office, and once you hold federal office in any position, you may not run for anything else for the rest of your life. Aforementioned term limits, as well as a limit on the number of days they shall be in session, with exceptions to declare war.

There's more, but I need to go to sleep.

[no more than 8 years in office]

I disagree with this, unless we extend this time limit to the civil service aka Deep State. Otherwise, legislators are just puppets dancing on the Deep State’s strings.

Tim Kaine is not even a Virginian. He is a carpetbagger from somewhere up North.

Here is the real Virgina, 2nd Amendment counties:

Sorry Sen. Kaine, but it’s hard to take you seriously. Because whenever I hear your name, this dopey picture of you comes to mind.

And after you pass it, you can wipe your ass with it.

This farce in the House and Senate is a great example of why the Founders created a Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.

Whatever blather asserted in the War Powers Act, Congress has no authority to control the movement or actions of the military. If they fund a big military, that's supposedly because there's a big threat. They are, by doing so, giving enormous power to the executive by giving him the tools needed to meet that threat.

The real power of the declaration of war is that it makes the treason clause of the Constitution operative, something about which the Dems apparently need to be reminded.

According to them we would have to absorb an Iranian nuclear strike while they debated returning fire ... fools

Veto-able, if they attempt to make it binding. Not overridable.

Kaine needs to spend a little time under FATWA, to see why he should just STFU.

Send him over for a vacay to Afghanistan to advertise pork rinds. He’ll get the idea.

Meanwhile, Iran is being destroyed economically with no shots being fired.

That is the point that everyone seems to miss in term limits, it simply shifts the power to unelected job-for-life bureaucrats. We are already suffering from them.

Journalists are referred to as the Fourth Estate - self-appointed wielders of power in the political realm. But the real Fourth Estate, unaccountable because of civil service (now combined with government union) job protections, is the increasingly Uncivil Service aka Deep State.

I’ve also left out the increasingly malignant and overweening life tenure judiciary, both at federal and local levels. Castrating one branch while leaving another lopsidedly powerful one alone is no way to promote a balance of power among the organs of government.
