Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) presented Jack Wilson , the volunteer security guard who stopped a shooting at a church in December, with the Governor's Medal of Courage to honor his heroic actions on that tragic Sunday.
Wilson used his SIG P229, that was chambered in .357 SIG, to take down a shooter who used a shotgun to kill two church members in the attack at West Freeway Church of Christ. Wilson only used one round to kill the gunman. The incident was caught on the church's livestream and showed the attack was stopped within six seconds.
"What we do know is that so many lives were saved because of Jack Wilson's quick action. His calmness under pressure and, above all else, his courage and his willingness to risk his own life to save the lives of others," Abbott said at the medal ceremony on Monday.
"When faced with an evilness that few of us can ever comprehend, Jack Wilson responded with strength, with bravery, and with love for those in the church that day. That is the kind of man that Jack Wilson is," he said, adding, "Jack, I know that you have been reluctant to accept the label of being called a hero, but that is exactly who you are."
"Im thankful to GOD that I have been blessed with the ability and desire to serve him in the role of head of security at the church. I am very sad in the loss of two dear friends and brothers in CHRIST, but evil does exist in this world and I and other members are not going to allow evil to succeed," Wilson has previously stated about the shooting. "Please pray for all the members and their families in this time. Thank you for your prayers and understanding."
A very deserving reward.
A well deseerved and honorable reward!!!!
“Courage” in the face of evil.
“Thank you Mr. Wilson, this is a well deserved award.”
Indeed it is.
Clearly spent the proper amount of time at the range... One amazing shot to the head... What a great hero... 6-seconds...
Just think of all the children who would be alive today if there had been someone like him in all those attacked schools... Maybe just having someone like him in all those cowardly police groups (who prefer standing around outside until a shooter has run out of ammo or targets) would have saved many lives...

Indeed - wonderful! And, a clear demonstration of the fruits of practice, muscle memory. A single shot to the head at 50 ft. Wonderful.

YES!!! And thank you Governor Abbott!!
May God continue to richly bless Texas, our Governor and this wonderful hero.
Note that Wilson is carrying while he receives the award.
Hey, it’s Texas. When I go to Austin in to the Capital building I see long lines as they wait to go through the metal detectors and x-ray machines. Not me, if you have an LTC and are carrying they have an express line. It’s true, you have a special spot and they let you right through.
My firearms instructor. What a great guy. And salt of the earth.
Was it a Sig 365?
“....May God continue to richly bless Texas, our Governor and this wonderful hero.....”
Thank you Mr Wilson for protecting the flock and representing the best of Texas.
