Kim Foxx likely to be on March primary ballot

A hearing officer (Barbara Goodman) has recommended Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx and Clerk of the Circuit Court hopeful Michael Cabonargi appear on the March primary ballot despite challenges to their nominating petitions.

Goodman also recommended Cabonargi appear on the March ballot. Cabonargi, who serves on the county’s Board of Review, is running for clerk of the circuit court.

Foxx had 3,362 signatures more than the required minimum (7,279) to appear on the ballot after a petition challenge filed by former 2nd Ward Ald. Bob Fioretti’s campaign.

Fioretti’s team alleged Foxx’s petition sheets showed a pattern of fraud.

The Democrats realized that Foxx was in deep trouble so they paired her with another candidate (Cabonargi) on a joint nominating petition in order to buoy her chances.

Nevertheless, roughly one half of the 20,000 petition signatures submitted in support of Foxx's candidacy were invalidated due to a variety of legal objections.

It is another embarrassing reminder of how incompetent and inept Foxx is in terms of complying with legal specifications.

It’s all fixed - Crime Wave Kim will win by a large margin. Mayor Lori Lighthead has already endorsed Foxx. It’s known as “The Chicago Way”

It is easy to collect bad signatures without sound procedures. I’m involved in a ballot initiative in my county. We are taking steps (such as looking up voters from the field using the online Board of Elections database) to ensure that we have good signatures. Even then, a few might be illegible or incomplete. We have planned for as much as 40 percent rejection to ensure we are left comfortably above the statutory minimum.
