After a human skull found in an active mining pit" was determined to be part of a Pennsylvania man, state police are seeking information that could lead to an explanation about why the skull was there.
Jason Gold, 34, of Lost Creek, Schuylkill County, had not been reported missing, but DNA testing showed that the skull was his, according to officials with the Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers.
There were several active warrants open for Golds arrest, authorities said.
The skull was found at the bottom of an embankment in the mining pit in August 2019. The mining pit is located just off of Yatesville Road in Mahanoy Township, Schuylkill County.
After, extensive searches of the area no other bones were located, Crime Stoppers said in a news release.
An anthropologist was able to determine that the skull was male, and it was eventually sent to the University of North Texas for DNA testing, according to the release. In November, the testing indicated that the skull was Gold, Crime Stoppers said.
Gold was not reported missing by any agencies," they said. Several family members were interviewed and were unable to provide further information on why Gold would have been where his body was discovered or why only his skull was discovered.

No mention of skin or brain found. Just his skill. No other bones in the area.
An animal could have dragged the skull away from the rest of his remains which haven't been discovered yet.
Well now the cops could arrest his skull...
Wonder if anyone cared about him BEFORE he became a criminal? Obviously they didn’t afterwords and no one missed him. Sad life, sad ending.
The Skull of Schuylkill County.
Perhaps they ought to quite killing skulls.
He had arrest warrants but i’m too lazy to open the article and see what they were for.
Maybe he was no good and the family didn’t associate with him anymore.
Maybe some of his associates killed him.
or maybe it was bigfoot or aliens.
The last one is my guess :)

Too shy to report?
No crimes are listed.
Reporters seem to lack curiosity and have little interest in reporting simple facts.
He may have been bipolar or had an other type of mental illness. Often families just give up after years of intervention and forced hospitalizations. People like this often becomes transient because they have warrants for minor crimes all over the state or even country.
Just the cranium in the coal mine.
They have Gold mines in PA?
no one cared after he became a criminal
I would guess there was someone that cared enough to kill the guy. As Kevin Costner said in Highwaymen when hunting for Bonnie and Clyde “that life always ends in blood”
Some people just aren’t missed that much when they disappear.

Ouch! Good one.
Let’s try: “He was just trying to get a head in the mining business”.
Reminds me of that headline along the lines of “Headless body found in topless bar.”
I wonder if this was a strip mine?
I knew a family like that. They would try to help their son and for awhile he would be in treatment and get better, but then go off his meds and disappear for a year or more. Then he would show up again.
That family did it over and over again (the Prodigal Son) to the point where it had become “normal” to them. “Yeah - the last time we saw him was Christmas a year ago and we have no idea where he is or how he is doing. Hopefully he’ll show up again and we can try to get him the help he needs.” I have no idea how it finally worked out for them.
Most likely, relatives and friends assumed that he went on the lam to avoid arrest. At least one person knew otherwise.
