Many independent contractor truck drivers were having to either move their residence out of state or have their employment terminated. A judge has temporarily blocked the imposition of the law.

When faced with a state circling the bowl, Sacramento flushes faster.

Sigh.

California will also become the first state in the nation to extend health-care coverage to some low-income adults who are in the country illegally.

You mean CITIZENS OF FOREIGN NATIONS.

What other sane country does something so stupid?

From the article:

The bill strikes at the heart of the “gig economy” business model of technology platforms like Uber, Postmates, Lyft Inc, DoorDash and others who rely heavily on the state’s 450,000 contract workers, not full-time employees, to drive passengers or deliver food via app-based services.

It seems to me that this idiotic law should apply to actors and actresses as well. If doing bit parts for anyone who will hire them isn’t gig work then what is. OTOH the application of Sacramento Wisdom would lead to an obvious exception for this esteemed group.

Rent Control failed at the Ballot Box so what’s a Commie to do?

It looks like Democracy dies in darkness in CA.

Democrats ban things,
Democrats talk about things,
but Democrats never do things.

The laws, passed by a solidly Democratic legislature and governor, all the problems in California can be blamed on the voter you get what you vote for.

Support a parasite vote democrat.

This is going to be really fun and interesting to watch over the coming year. i think we can expect the decrease in population to surpasses NY very soon.

But as much as they talk about the virtues of income equality there, they really do seem hell bent on wrecking the economic machine all together and creating a new country of rich lords and house cleaning serfs, but this iteration, the serfs get a barely living wage and free health care. They seem to hate their middle class.

I think this will end well ... for those outside California looking for a more local Venezuela to serve as an example to the rest of the country that we should value our freedom in virtually every single instance higher than an idea designed to serve socialist elites but painted to look like the reverse.

1 of the New Code changes - that is ABSOLUTE Insanity ...

Because you’re too stupid to open a window .....

All new houses will have a fan that runs 24/7 blowing conditioned air out of the house into the outside air. Fresh air is run in reverse through the same fan and heated or cooled through a heat exchanger so as to minimize electrical costs !

The point is to bring fresh air into your house because former building codes in California have made building envelopes so air tight they have become unsafe.

the state-wide rent “controls” are guaranteed to reduce the stock of rental units, increase the cost of non-rental housing and greatly exacerbate the housing shortages in California

the elimination of private contractors in all segments of the economy is guaranteed to wreck the California economy more than all other regulations combined as most businesses that are dependent on private contractors will flee the state whenever possible, including many of the private contractors themselves ... the attempted elimination of private contractors actually has the potential to contract the economy in California ...
