The gun-toting hero who shot down a gunman who killed two parishioners at a Texas church Sunday was identified as a local political hopeful who said he was not going to allow evil to succeed in a Facebook post Monday.
The events at West Freeway Church of Christ put me in a position that I would hope no one would have to be in, Jack Wilson wrote. But evil exists and I had to take out an active shooter in church.
I am very sad in the loss of two dear friends and brothers in CHRIST, but evil does exist in this world and I and other members are not going to allow evil to succeed, Wilson wrote. Please pray for all the members and their families in this time. Thank you for your prayers and understanding.
Wilson, 71, who is running for a Hood County commissioners seat with the slogan Make sure your vote is on target, was one of two volunteer security guards at the church in a Fort Worth suburb around 10:50 a.m. when an unidentified man clad in black opened fire with a rifle, killing two people during Sunday services.

I saw the video of the shooting. He is an amazing man. Under stressful circumstances he dropped an active shooter from a distance. He would have my vote.
Remarkably ordinary face.
His reaction-time and accuracy were amazing.
As one FReeper says, don’ F with and old guy. He’ll just shoot you. In my previous jobs, I figure if I end up in Court, my defense will be “ Im’ too old to take a beating and too young to die.”
What an apropos slogan.

I did. Will you?
Head shot on a moving target, under pressure, no warm ups or familiar target/distance like at the range.
There may have been a shot fired by another churchgoer however. Watch the video closely. Their is a gun flash along the pew leading toward the perp just has he is hit. It seems to come down the pew itself. The standing shooter is probably 25 feet away. Also, there was mention of a second churchgoer shooting at the perp in the earlier reports.
He owned a firearms training business called On Target Firearms where he trained his community in gun safety and readiness. Unfortunately, he lost his business to an electrical fire in 2016 and his efforts to reopen have been thwarted by the local zoning board. I would love to see this man teach firearm training again.
What firearm did Mr. Wilson use ?
Don’t mess with the gray beards.
Just as an FYI for you New Yorkers. The bad guy who was neutralized in this church incident yesterday could very well have been removed as a threat by an armed Texas woman. Around here, the women are also armed and well trained in firearms usage.
“What firearm did Mr. Wilson use “
Been trying determine that myself. Blew up one of the good still and then only thing I can make out is that it appears to have a small optical site (dot site). Heck of a shot.
I used to shoot competitions where a swat commander used to bring his young guys to shoot with us. He said he wanted to instill in them not to under estimate anyone and don’t be fooled by the grey hair and age... something about old age and treachery wins out over youth and skill.
Sig 229 in 357
Texas Jack. Sounds like a character in a Western novel.
“Sig 229 in 357”
Thanks.... bad guy dropped like a rock
Appeared to be a shotgun in the video I saw yesterday.
Does he have same name of the guy shot by Shane in the movie Shane ?
Whatever he used should have Youre Damned! etched on the barrel.
