Time and again throughout our history, the armed forces of the United States have proven to be the greatest force for good in the history of the world. Every day, millions of heroes get up to stand their post and defend the American people from harm whether by land, sea, or air.
Under the leadership of President Donald Trump, the strongest military in the world has grown stronger still. The president has signed into law the largest increase in the national defense since the days of Ronald Reagan, including the largest pay raise for our troops in more than 10 years.
As President Trump has said, Our active-duty personnel are now the best-equipped, best-trained, and most technologically advanced fighting force in the history of the world.
But even with our incredible military might, the United States must always remain vigilant against new threats to our security.
That includes threats posed by new technologies. Today our adversaries and rivals have developed capabilities like ground-based lasers, radio frequency jammers, hypersonic missiles, and anti-satellite missiles weapons that increasingly enable them to do us harm from outer space.
As our NATO allies have acknowledged, space can now become a theater of war. And as technologies continue to advance, outer space will only become more critical to our national security.
But in the face of these new challenges, the United States is rising to meet them under the leadership of President Donald Trump.
Last June, President Trump became the first president in American history to publicly call for a Space Force as a sixth branch of our armed forces. As the President said, America must reclaim our heritage as the worlds greatest space-faring nation
[O]ur destiny, beyond the Earth, is not only a matter of national identity, but a matter of national security.

Combined PING! and DANG!
DANG!
I was born too soon! I always dreamed of this as a kid.
I imagine one of their first missions will be anti-satellite warfare.
Winning!
The Rod From God.
“DANG!
I was born too soon! I always dreamed of this as a kid.”
Good think you didn’t tell your childhood buddies that you wanted to be a space cadet.
“I imagine one of their first missions will be anti-satellite warfare.”
We have a robot space craft in the XB-47 that could be used to mine every enemy satellite in orbit. Just attach a nice little gift that can be remotely detonated.
If we haven’t already done it we are stupid.
Yes, we need another big government program.
Private industry would never go into space.
We need another program like healthcare, poverty, school, pension.
Let the Government who never had a successful industry lead the way into space, because they call it cool names.
Not.
If you decide to join up, whatever you do, don’t let them issue you a red shirt!
+.
Yep, good call. No more “just along for the ride” presidents.
Obamaphones for everyone! Homeless igloos on sidewalks - and portapotties everywhere. Free cars, and lower the driving age to 12. Soon, free cheese (from the Moon) for non-white kids (whites don't count). Government is not the problem, the people running it are the problem.
Will there be a new service academy? Will the students be called “space cadets” with a straight face?
You realize that the military is one of the few legitimate functions of the federal government, right?
The threat of it is the only thing that backs our money.
Yes indeed, this is the game. I am a contractor in the national security space arena--and "defensive space control" is the focus of my work.
Because of sensitive sources and methods--and the distraction of shampeachment--the public simply is not informed of the dangerous developments going on. But I will mention something that is publicly acknowledged:
Back in March, India conducted a successful live missile shot against a target satellite in low-earth orbit. There is a space arms race going on--and almost no one is paying attention to it.
I am totally psyched about Space Force.
In response to another response, because Space Force is a new service within the Department of the Air Force, it is almost certain that USAFA will be a primary source for Space Officers.
Lol. Too true.
