At least 15 roaming horses were fatally shot at a Kentucky strip mine site, authorities said, describing it as a "battlefield for just horses."
The horses were found along U.S. 23 near the Floyd-Pike County line, WYMT-TV reported Tuesday. Some were as young as a year and others were pregnant, authorities said.
This is very inhumane and it's a very cruel act of somebody who just apparently had nothing else to do or whatever just to go back on a strip job and shoot down horses who were, one of them obviously was feeding, had grass in its mouth, Floyd County Sheriff John Hunt said. "It looked like a battlefield for just horses."

They should shoot the SOB's when they find them.
Need some Kentucky justice.
Actually after finding them, they shouldn’t be found again. Anywhere.
How do we know the horses were just?
This is horrifying.
Plus there’s someone out there who’s willing to kill horses without any problem.
I can’t imagine humans are far behind
Who owned the horses? Were they strays? The article says that the horses were all killed and contradicts itself later.
“A battlefield?” Were the horses armed?
This is Trump’s fault.
I am trying to find some more detailed local information on this. Not having any luck. Every story is almost identical wording. Journalism is now picking something up off the wire and reprinting it.
Describing the carnage, Goble says a yearling had been shot in the face. Other horses had clearly struggled and suffered before dying. It was a stark change from the normal scene there, she says, as people regularly visited the horses to bring them hay or other food during the winter months, when foraging can be difficult.
“Some of them were friendly,” Goble says of the horses, “and you could go up there and they’d walk right up to you.”
Yes, it would be nice to have some real local info.
This was linked to a horse racing site I frequently visit. I have yet to open the Fox News link.

They are identical. I did look up the area FWIW.
It is right on the border of W VA.
“No just horses, no peace!”
What kind of horses? Insurance scam?
They shoot horses, don’t they?
The animal worshipers are the animal abusers. I’ll “mansplain” that for y’all and give you the opportunity to learn something.
A few decades ago, there were no wild horses. Do you know why there are so many wild horses now? I’ll tell you anyway.
Because daddy or mommy and his or her little girl long ago neglected her horse, which is cruelty. The horse wasn’t like the trouble-free horse in the Disney shows. The horse required feeding, exercise, and other care and maintenance. Meanwhile, other Disney girls grew up to be the new, extremely expensive veterinarians, further inhibiting proper care of livestock and other animals.
So eventually, the horses were abandoned by the animal worshipers, who were cruel. And there they are, horses trying to survive by themselves without the animal husbandry originally mandated nearly 6,000 years ago.
But abortions OK?
FWIW Title lengths have been increased on FR.
Around here range horses are a real pest. The Feds have not managed them well and wild horse advocates sue every time there is a round up. They invade suburbia on a regular basis and destroy landscaping and property as well as damage the open range. A few years ago some idiots shot some close to Virginia City and got significant jail time. I own horses and like them. They are not my pets. They a work animals and earn their keep.
