Congress can waive the ban on an impeached person convicted and removed from office holding future federal office by the Senate if it wants to.

It did it for Alcee Hastings. He’s been forgiven by Democrats. So what’s all the hullabaloo about Trump?

No, the US Senate did not include that disability in its impeachment conviction. . . they deliberately stoped short of doing it at the request of Democrats who brought the impeachment because Hastings had been acquitted of the criminal case in court. . . even though some of the reasons for his acquittal were the perjury charges for which he was impeached.
