Cruz: Senate Should Allow Trump To Call Witnesses In His Defense If He Wants To
RCP ^ | Date December 12, 2019 | Ian Schwartz

Posted on 12/13/2019 10:38:18 PM PST by conservative98

"My personal view is the House conducted a partisan show trial," Cruz said Thursday. "They denied due process. They didn't allow the president to cross-examine witnesses. They didn't allow Republicans to call witnesses. I think the Senate needs to do better. We need to respect due process. We need a fair proceeding. That means we need to let both sides present their case."

"If the president wants to call witnesses, if the president wants to call Hunter Biden or the whistleblower, the Senate should allow the president to call witnesses in his defense," the Senator said.

Love to see a Senate trial with everyone involved with Schitt’s and NoNad’s committees including any and all related folk down to their personal groomers brought before the Senate. As each is being sworn in remind them that any, and I mean any deviation from the truth will result in an extended visit to jail. There the wardrobe (orange jumpsuits) will be small but your cellmate will be a very large sex fiend doing life for murder. Then prepare perjury traps and other legal machinations that guarantee jail time. Some will get thru, many will not.

The down side to this action is that the media will go full-throated howling about political revenge just slightly less brutal than a bannana republic purge.

No witnesses are necessary.

There is no need to prolong the farce.

The President’s impeachment battle has already been won

The question for me is: What is best for President Trump.

I’m letting the president make that call. Whatever he pushes, and then agrees to, is what I’ll support.

He is the one on the line with these idiots.

Graham is in a Senate race and is scared Schiffless that voters will find out he is a Never Trumper-in-hiding. SC is about to have a big surprise.

The Senate could just subpeona witnesses themselves. Here's a partial list:

Eric Ciaramella

Jeffrey Epstein's pilot (who would have seen who got on the Lolita Express)

Adam Schiff

Gerrold Nadler

Peter Strok

Lisa Page

Jeff Sessions

Put every one of them under oath. And wear a hazmat suit because the garbage would most likely spew in all directions.

OK, here’s my 2 cents probably worth less than that).
In an impeachment trial in the Senate the chief justice of the supreme court presides. I a “normal” trial there is a judge, lawyers for each side and the jury. The lawyers are some of the senators the jury is the reat of the senators. Now, in a “normal” trial the charges are brought, the defense objects and the judge decides if there is enough evidence to proceed. If there is not, he dismisses the suit. With prejudice if he doesn’t want to hear about it again.
Could, Mr when is a fee a tax Roberts just throw the whole thing out? And wouldn’t that be sweet?
I can dream can’t I?

Day 2 witness list:

Hunter Biden (The Bag Man for the Biden Crime Family)

Paul Pelosi (Nancy's son, not the husband. Sonny got a payoff job similar to Hunter Biden)

John Kerry's son who got a payoff job in Ukraine job

Mitt Romney's son, who got a payoff job in Ukraine

Whoever made the hiring decision to put these guys on the payroll.

Other suggestions are welcome, but this list should cover the required points.

Yep. I know what I want, and I know what they want. Those to things definitely do not match up, but the only thing that really matters in the end is what President Trump wants, because it’s his honor that is on the line.

He has also demonstrated that he is a master strategist, so I wait his call, but until then I am going to bitch as I am want to do!

Mock the charges with a one-sentence dismissal, then go straight to a vote.

Done in one afternoon...

Call one witness that is "good", then vote.

It has been apparent for months that President Trump wants a Senate trial to introduce evidence against the coup plotters with the whole world watching live. As McConnell indicated, he will defer to the president regarding a trial or outright dismissal, and all of this public "controversy" about which way to go only draws more attention to the spectacle - something we should recognize by now as Trump's trademark.

In a poker game all words are lies, so behavior is the only thing one may reliably observe. Just look at all the faces and see who is calm and who is panicked. President Trump has all the evidence and leverage and his enemies have none. He has the goods on a lot of very compromised people who now, like Judas goats, are staring blankly ahead and leading the Democrat Party over a cliff. They don't want to but they have to, because their fates are now in the president's hands.

Pray for the President Trump's safety and enjoy the show. MAGA!

I agree with your summary but I would like to add that President rump is also interested in the economy of running his election campaign. I believe he will decide on a full trial as long as the federal rules of evidence are in place in the Senate. The trial will allow President Trump to continue his block buster fund raising achieved from these Kanagaroo Court impeachment proceedings.

And it it through a fair trial that the Democrat socialists who hail from the failing Socialist city states of America will be sent packing for good. And they will also be rejected by the electorate in such a way that President Trump will likely win 40 to 45 states in November.

Now the House Democrats know this. There is still a chance that the House will not vote for Articles of Impeachment. That would result in an even more comprehensive electoral rout in November if they continue, than is already obvious.

That will never happen. Cruz will destroy these witnesses on the stand.

My understanding is that no senators are allowed to do any exam/cross, but simply sit and listen.

The Dems spend 2 months smearing Trump. The Repukes response is, let’s just throw it out. Which leaves the talking point that Trump actually did something wrong. The whole thing is true B.S. I don’t trust Repuke Senators

Linda’s plan to call no witnesses is his “let’s heal the country” approach. AND IT IS WRONG.
There will likely NEVER be a better chance to bring about the demise of the deep state. This sham impeachment by the left is the spark that could well set fire to the swamp, IF the pubbies man-up and realize it.
The left will learn quickly how they screwed up, and they will alter their tactics going forward.
The pubbies MUST strike while the iron is hot.

The nebulous charges in the Articles of Impeachment should allow the President’s team to call EVERYONE associated with the Dossier, CrossFire Hurricane, the DOJ/FBI FISA warrants, even up to Hunter Biden and the Burisma debacle.

SO...shut up, Linda. Let’s get to it. Well past time to step up and right this Nation.

"Scott Adams, a master of Persuasion, explains that you don't want the American voter gerbils to "think" that there's something actually there...Mock the charges with a one-sentence dismissal, then go straight to a vote. It would be devastating."

It would also be wrong. They wanted a war, now they've got one. If Trump is impeached, it is scorched earth time.

And you got to be a little blithe not to follow Scott Adams and understand that his 'persuasion' means he wants what he wants and he gets what he wants by persuasion, and whether or not that coincides with the right course of order for anyone else is ts.

Adams is no more or less a persuasion expert than President Trump, and I back my President to the hilt on a Senate trial, if he wants one. If Trump prefers a vote of acquittal, I back that too.
