WASHINGTON - Nearly 175 Saudi Arabian military aviation students have been grounded as part of a “safety stand-down” after a Saudi Air Force lieutenant shot and killed three people last week at a U.S. Navy base in Florida, U.S. officials told Reuters on Tuesday.
The FBI has said U.S. investigators believe Saudi Air Force Second Lieutenant Mohammed Saeed Alshamrani, 21, acted alone when he attacked a U.S. Navy base in Pensacola, Florida on Friday, before he was fatally shot by a deputy sheriff.
“A safety stand-down and operational pause commenced Monday for Saudi Arabian aviation students,” said Lieutenant Andriana Genualdi, a Navy spokeswoman.
Another U.S. official said the grounding was to help Saudi students prepare to eventually restart their training and similar procedures would have been taken if such an incident took place in a U.S. military squadron.
Genualdi said the grounding included three different military facilities: Naval Air Station Pensacola, Naval Air Station Whiting Field and Naval Air Station Mayport, all in Florida.
She added that while it was unclear when the Saudi students would be allowed to fly again, their classroom training was expected to resume soon. She added that aviation training had resumed for students from other countries.

Better to be safe than sorry.
We are not going to stop training them. Too many politicians have money to gain by our selling aircraft to the mooselimbs.
Heck, if a politician could make a buck, I bet he’d sell them bullets to shoot at our soldiers.
This sounds like a horrible idea but we know China and Russia have a disliking of Muslims. Maybe we could work with our two adversaries to secretly get rid of them all and also become friends at the same time. Win win , prob the only way to world peace .
Grounded? How about sending them packing.
Deport their asses.
Send them all home. Accept no more of them.
Ground them? Why not just deport them and have done with it?
Which is why the penalty for treason should be death or non-parolable prison for life. The stakes are way too high to do otherwise.
I hope they did this quick enough. Shooting was days ago.

It was in the news reports from days ago.
WHY are they training at a Naval Air Station or in the US for that matter, Saudis do not own an aircraft carriers that I know of.
We sell them the planes and train them to fly them.
I don’t care if he acted alone or not.
I believe it is impossible to have sufficient assurances when it comes to vetting anyone from Saudi Arabia not here as part of the government’s official mission.
I think that among the clerics in Saudi Arabia, and among the masses in society in general there is sufficient call for the beliefs voiced by the terrorists who acted in the Pensacola incident, regardless of whatever the state-to-state relations with Saudi Arabia have been or are today.
We only need to remember that almost twenty years ago we were on good state-to-state relations with Saudi Arabia and yet it is from Saudi Arabia that most of the 9/11 terrorists came from. Clearly no matter what has happened in our state-to-state relations something in Saudi society was terrible wrong then, and still is.
The 175 Saudis that are grounded should be sent home.
Naval Air Station Pensacola, Naval Air Station Whiting Field and Naval Air Station Mayport, all in Florida.
Send these 175 guys to land mine testing field. Tell them it’s part of the program.
A ‘safety stand-down’ - Are they kidding? The same thing they do when there’s an accident? A polygraph test should be administered to each foreign military member at every base in the US; anyone opting out gets a free ride to Djibouti.
I know how the Navy treats security stateside - it’s a joke. Four years after 9/11, we were informed at a conference that none of the contracted cleaning crews for Navy recruiting commands had been vetted (and many spoke no English). We were told it would be five years before that happened because new contracts had already been signed. I’ll bet it still hasn’t happened. At the same time we were getting weekly intel warnings about all those commands being soft targets. That’s when a lot of folks I know started carrying - and it paid off for the CO in Chattanooga.
