It’s kind of a side point, but I’m going to defend Buchanan here. Yes, Buchanan blundered the country into a bloody civil war. But he had nothing to go on. No conception as to what might happen.
I’d replace Buchanan on that list with George W. Bush. Bush had all the lessons of Vietnam in front of him. Yet he repeated many of LBJ’s foolish mistakes. And we will pay for those mistakes for decades to come.
It’s also worth noting that two great enemies of the Islamists were the Shah of Iran and Saddam Hussein. Carter got rid of the first one. W got rid of the second one. The Islamists should be grateful to both of those guys.

I second that. Way back when there were conspiracy theories about how the 9-11 terrorists attacks were planned by US backed Saudis. Back then I thought that was total BS, and then some.
But the Bush family came right out and talked of the New World Order. What a better way for the Deep State to get things going than by creating 9-11 by duping some Islamo Whackos into doing their dirty work. Talk about plausible deniability!
This resulted in our continuous wars ever since. Add to this more destabilizing efforts by Madam Clinton as Secretary of DOS, and we a refugee crisis flooding Europe. I could go on.
But my point is Bush is by far worse than Buchanan and even Carter. Carter’s mistakes were mostly based on idiocy and naive leftism. Bush’s was well planned by the Deep State.
