Report: Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp to Defy Trump, Appoint Establishment-Backed Kelly Loeffler to Senate

Georgia Republican Gov. Brian Kemp will likely tap business executive Kelly Loeffler to the U.S. Senate despite strong criticism from his conservative base over Loffler’s affiliation with Planned Parenthood, Stacey Abrams, and establishment Republicans, according to a report released Friday.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Friday that Kemp plans to tap business executive Loeffler next week as he will attempt to appeal to Georgia suburban women despite the conservative opposition to Loeffler.

Kemp’s potential nomination of Loeffler will defy President Donald Trump, prominent conservative organizations, and Georgia’s conservative base that helped Kemp get elected to the governor’s office.

Breitbart News has reported how Loeffler has concerning ties to Democrat icon Stacey Abrams, and also that Loeffler’s basketball team, the Atlanta Dream, has promoted the abortion provider Planned Parenthood. Loeffler has also donated $750,000 to Mitt Romney’s failed 2012 presidential campaign as well as hundreds of thousands of dollars to former Speaker Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) campaigns and PACs.

The Georgia governor’s nomination of Loeffler could also spark a contentious primary fight, as House Judiciary Committee ranking member Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA), Trump’s favorite for the seat, told the Journal-Constitution that he is “strongly” considering a run for the Senate seat if he is not picked.

Trump has reportedly lobbied Kemp to tap Collins three times in recent weeks. Trump expressed doubt over Loeffler, who remains politically untested.

Reports that Kemp will nominate Loeffler to the U.S. Senate has engendered outcry from conservatives in the House as well as across Georgia’s Republican base.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), a strong ally of Trump and supporter of his America First policies, said that Kemp is “hurting President Trump” by nominating a business executive who donated “$700k plus to Mitt Romney and nothing to Trump until she wanted in the Senate?”

You definitely cannot.

I made a comment a while back on how the voting demographics were changing all over the South and how it can be directly correlated to all the companies moving South, away from the high tax/regulatory sh*tholes they helped create, and brought all their workers with them. Someone responded, something to the effect that I didn’t like capitalism or whatever..

Far from it. What I don’t like is all the Southern Governors, that really started with Rick Perry and the rest followed suit, with going all over the place enticing these companies to move and giving away the farm to do it. Getting all their developer buddies to start slamming up subdivisions with pools and tennis courts. But, the jobs were supposed to go to Georgians, weren’t they? Nope. They went to the people that relocated. They went to the people that sold their 3/2 ranch on Long Island for $400k and then moved into a Mini-Mansion in an Alpharetta swim/tennis community, where they’re paying about $7000/yr LESS in taxes.

Look at Nashville. Some tout the new mayor as a Conservative. There was a 3 way race: 2 Democrats and 1 Republican. The Republican, Carol Swain, who is a textbook example of going from nothing to something, in more ways than one, gets bumped out and it comes down one Leftist beating out the incumbent, who is a bit more Leftist. Things are only going to get worse in Nashville. Chattanooga and Greenville, SC are the same way.

Interestingly, I have a friend that lives in the Nashville area. About 2 years ago, he was overjoyed about all the cranes dotting the skyline and his property value going up. Recently he posted something on FB about people moving into an area because the one they left sucked, but now they’re changing their new home to be like their old home...ha ha ha ha ha

McConnell gets stooge or democrat but not a dreaded conservative.

Mission accomplished for McConnell.

McConnell and Romney are definitely tacking the GOP to the left. They see the warm welcome back much of the base gives to Rip Van Sessions and know they have nothing to fear from conservatives.

Because traditional conservatism is what let the klansmen have free reign to destroy the country since the 50’s.

All talk and no fight. All talk and run away when it gets bad.

I don’t support appointing the House member (Doug Collins) as we do not need an open seat to have to spend money on - no matter how pro-GOP a district is, an open seat is fair game - especially in a special election would cause resources to be used unnecessarily. That said...there isn’t a better person in all of Georgia than Kelly Loeffler? Is that truly the best they could find? If we are playing the long game for “diversity” as this pick of Loeffler suggests, a young, dynamic conservative Latino/Latina would fit the bill better than this. What makes Kelly Loeffler the only choice out of all of the people in Georgia?

>>What in the world is wrong with Kemp???

Loeffler is married to the guy that owns the NYSE. There’s a LOT of money there for “campaign donations”.

I go by the Label (since apparently We have to pic one) U.S. CONSTITUTIONALIST.

In response to My answer I get: OK/ So You’re a Republican (to which I reply NO I’m a U.S. CONSTITUTIONALIST) then they come to be concerned as they try to understand simple words. Or I get the “you just lwant to tell me What to do with my body and child. NO WRONG AGAIN!
No where in U.S.CONSTITUTION does it mention Abortion or telling a Woman what to do with her life.

Then its the Assault Gun Crap. Wrong AGAIN t

>>It means that GA lost a Congressional seat (GA 6th, Newt’s old district) and a lot of state and local seats due to GA suburban women voting Dem, and Kemp is trying something to offset that.

GA lost the 6th because Handel didn’t bother to campaign for it.

“There’s a LOT of money there for campaign donations”

Now it all makes sense. The governor sold the seat to the highest bidder.

“What makes Kelly Loeffler the only choice out of all of the people in Georgia?”

She is a businesswoman from Illinois with zero political experience. She should be the last person on that list. Will not keep that seat for very long.

This is what’s wrong with the Republican party. They sit at conference tables and demograph away, rather than abide by principles.

I had concerns over Kemp. I still do. I never vote for anyone who is ProChoice or supports those who are. Now I know Kemp supports killing the most innocent and defenseless among us.
