Alexander Vindman is the Ukrainian-born Purple Heart recipient and U.S. Army lieutenant colonel who is testifying about his concerns regarding President Donald Trump’s interactions with Ukraine. Vindman hails from a family of immigrants who was raised in Brooklyn’s “Little Odessa.” He was 3 years old when his family left Ukraine for America.
He has a twin brother, a wife with Oklahoma ties, and an older brother in investment banking. His full name is Alexander Semyon Vindman, with the middle name coming from his father. As for his politics, campaign finance records do not show any federal donations for him, and his social media page does not contain anything visibly political. The Jewish Telegraph Agency describes Alexander Vindman, 44, as “a Jewish refugee from that country (Ukraine) when it was part of the Soviet Union.”

But wait-- there's more! They are actually from Russia, via the Ukraine and then through Italy (during Jimmy Carter's 4 years, in 1979)- not Israel. They emigrated "as" Jews with a non-Jewish father and their maternal Jewish grandmother name: Kalmanovitch. Key point- emigrating made easier (at this time Soviets invaded Afghanistan- Russians were screened more (Zbig Brzenski's time NS advisor)- Jews were more easily passed in, point in fact from immigration history. An interesting note for those curious. It was the grandma who took the boys to temple and shule/Torah. Not the dad.

In the mid-1970s, Brighton Beach became a popular place to settle for Soviet immigrants, mostly Jews from Russia and Ukraine.[ So many ex-Soviets immigrated to Brighton Beach that the area became known as "Little Odessa" after the Ukrainian city on the Black Sea.
