I don’t think it matters, the hard truth is McConnell is going to grant an immediate motion to dismiss, which will pass 51-49ish, or possibly 51-50 with Pence getting the final word before voting to dismiss.

That’s what McConnell is saying now to excuse doing nothing while the coupists attempt to remove POTUS. We can fully expect a Never Trump back stab later. There will be a long trial in the Senate. Burr suggested 6-8 weeks yesterday. Add in Kavanaugh style Democrat obstruction and bickering and you have the Senate tied up for 3 months easy.

“Now, it could be that her support for Trump is contrived for her political future”

Yea, and it COULD BE that the Steelers need a new head coach Rush.

I agree with what Rush says, but I don’t think some of these squishy Republicans care. I think they are content to “play ball” with a Democrat majority and ultimately want the same fate for our country that the Dems want.

I don’t think all Republicans in office feel this way, but enough of them dislike Trump so much that they are willing to sacrifice the country.

Rush: There is no immediate future in the Republican Party if you aren’t pro-Trump. And these Republicans on Capitol Hill had better figure this out today. They had better figure it out today before this show gets started tomorrow. There is no future in the party if you’re not pro-Trump. And if you don’t understand why Trump has 90-plus support in the Republican Party, you have zero chance of winning in 2024.

The renewed support for coup enabler Sleepy Sessions blows that narrative up. As long as the GOPe are verbally supportive of POTUS they are home free it appears. It certainly appears Graham will cruise to reelection after refusing to lift a finger to stop this ongoing coup against a GOP POTUS.

Very true. And while watching Hannity can sometimes drive one nuts with his “big news” schtick, it is important to remember that without him and the other pro-Trump Fox programs, many would only “know” what the LSM tells them are the “facts”.

Thanks for your reasoned explanation of the difference in House and Senate rules. One other point is that the Speaker of the House is a Constitutional Officer elected by a majority of the House while the Senate Majority Leader is only a Party Official elected by the Majority Party.

These are Senate rules.

The majority can change them at will.

Thus the article is hyperbole.

Joe D says: “In order to issue subpoenas in the Senate, the Senate chairman need the CONSENT of the ranking minority member (Dem).”

All fine and good Joe. But where did you find this “rule?”

“...the risk of Trump’s actual removal is there and shouldn’t be played with.”

There is nowhere near enough support for removal in the Senate - zero chance - but whether there is or there isn’t, the strategy should be the same:

Let the House Democrats continue to behave like jackasses, with the world watching. Then when it gets to the Senate, let the American people finally hear a real debate - and as with the Kavanaugh hearings, the Democrats will reveal their partisan hate and shameful dishonesty to the American people, while the Republicans will fall squarely in line with the President and with the truth.

Sure a couple RINO neverTrumpers like Romney will try to stab him in the back, but what can they say? As with the Kavanaugh hearings, the worst they can do is delay the process a bit like Flake did, by saying things like “We should hear both sides”. But in this case, hearing both sides is likely to damage them more than us - because they broke the law - Trump didn’t. The more they shovel, the deeper they will dig their own graves...more rope to have themselves with...hoisted by their own petards.

Regardless of any Romney backstabbing, it will be a slam dunk win for President Trump, once it gets to the Senate.

The President is not only completely safe from removal - he is actually benefiting hugely from all of this, because in an election year, while the Democrats are fooled by their own fake news, they are foolishly ignoring the elephant in the room: “It’s the economy, stupid!”

Four years with a great economy, the sky is not falling, WWIII didn’t start, and the Democrats are off on wild goose chases, or pushing wildly unpopular policies like socialism, open borders, gun grabbing, late term abortion, and allowing men in girls’ locker rooms?

By picking a fight with the DC deep state, President Trump has managed to work it so that even four years later, he gets to run as the outsider, the change candidate - against the corrupt DC establishment! Genius!

Things couldn’t be looking better for 2020.

I think Rush’s point was it doesn’t matter what she really believes, but that she is publically and strongly acknowledging President Trump as the Republican leader.

His point is that ALL Republicans must do so if they expect Republican voters to vote for THEM.

It is sink or swim time for Republican Congress/Governors/Legislators. You either strongly support the President now, or just become the democrat you really are. The question for them... Who are you trying to please, the media or your voters? Chose one. Just remember your choice will mean you may never win again. Dance with those who brought ya.

I really don’t care what my dum bass representative “believes”. Just vote for President Trump’s conservative measures and DO NOT condemn him in any way to the mainstream media, or you are, by my definition (and millions of conservative voters) a NEVER TRUMPER who I will never vote for.

This is what MY representative, Martha Roby, RINO-AL, has done and guess what? She’s so unpopular that she is retiring after only 8 years in office.

Again, Rush’s point to those squishes is “Now is the time to decide. The voters are watching. If the democrats can defeat Trump with you just watching it all happen, then you’ve failed in their view, because Trump = US. The dems hate him but us more for putting him in office.

This is a fight, Squishes. Sh1t or get off the pot.

Ping!

I believe in an Impeachment trial, testimony can be compelled, regardless of Senate rules.

It’s not up to the Senate, but the SCOTUS CJ.

I thought that was common knowledge, Greassly complained repeatably about not being able to subpoena witnesses.

Lots of witnesses they could call in a Senate hearing. Lots of crap about the democrats and the coup could come out.

But....counting on the republicans. That’s the problem.

Fair point.

The Senate should do the investigation anyway. Some rumblings that they may begin hearings but that’s all it is. I can only surmise their safer play is to wait for the pending reports. Which are also just rumblings. Nothing real yet.

There may be a problem of blowback on the Senate. Who knows who is complicit in what.
