President Donald Trump was right to take on China but his mercurial nature may hinder the ability of Washington to cut a comprehensive trade and technology deal with Beijing down the road, The New York Times Tom Friedman told CNBC on Thursday.

For the first time in almost TWO GENERATIONS, President Trump, unlike EVERY SINGLE PRESIDENT in the last THIRTY YEARS, is on the side of AMERICANS.
American workers, first.
Yeah, baby.
I also works the other way.
If China doesn’t give Trump an acceptable Deal, Trump may not be re-elected. Which China would likely prefer.
Just Like Nazi Pelosi will not likely approve the new NAFTA deal anytime soon.
I don’t know if Mr. Friedman knows what the ChiComs are thinking either but if he should happen to be right then the ChiComs as well haven’t figured Trump out.
I don’t honestly think his base, will support anything, the Chinese are advocating for.
For real.
I am halfway through the book “The Stealth War” by Gen; Robert Spaulding (Ret), and Friedman should read it.
If Friedman were still an American, in reading it, he would be shocked enough that giving a crap about what Communist China thinks about anything is an exercise in self-delusion.
The behavior of China in a “Free Trade” environment is outright warfare. The Communist Chinese know they are at war with us, Gen. Spaulding knows they are at war with us, and I know it too, as many of us do.
But Friedman doesn’t know. Friedman thinks we are still engaged in Free Trade and Trump is just being a fly in the ointment.
In 2019, Trump is to China what Churchill was to Germany in 1939.
'Juice his base' is Chinee for 'represent the American people', which is a concept foreign to a country which has never known freedom.

Yeah the idea that he would put off a deal instead of making one and TOUTING it during the election doesn’t make sense.
But he will do what’s RIGHT and politics won’t dictate his moves.
I hope.
I know the economic threat to some of the tech industry companies and its would be effect on the economy made him cut back some tariffs early on but nothing is black and white.
He’s doing a great job.
But i I was China, I would stall until the elections.
They can survive another year of troubles. NOT Five.
Friedman just gets stupider and stupider as he ages.
The unusual thing, is that the Chinese are actually representing their side, very effectively.
Walmart however, along with every store in America, are (all) completely sold out.
All of them. Because our government has been selling out to China for the last entire three decades.
Weird, that.
Just saying...
I've been coming to the conclusion that China infiltrated and has been controlling this country at least since GW Bush in an ever increasing manner. From buying our politicians (Bush, Clintons, Feinstein, Biden, etc), ports in Long Beach, fentanyl trade, human trafficking, and ridiculous and scurrilous 'trade practices'.
The Donald is fighting that infiltration and the deep state that has orchestrated and profited from it.
This is what the takeover of a country looks like. Who needs to invade when you can buy?
p.s. Notice how the derps are all on the side of China and against Russia? Think about that in light of their rhetoric and actions against Trump.
So Friedman is in with the Chicoms?
I think a whole huge amount of America’s entire establishment, has been completely in bed with China for more that the entire last generation.
For real.
When the day arrives that the US gets smacked down by China, 3/4 of the country will be totally shocked. That includes the politicians on the Chinese payroll.
What I like about the Chinese best is how they are more vicious then the Nazis and on themselves. A society full of mass murders and only children - good times. If karma is real China is hosed. How many forced non-forced abortions - forced sterilizations?
No you are thinking of Milton Friedman.
Tom Friedman is to economics what David Brooks is to crime reporting. This guy isn’t a has been, he’s a never was.

Um, no it doesn't. Trump has educated the public of the negative ramifications of China taking advantage of the deep state, and the benefits of reducing the trade deficit. There is no possibility Trump loses public support by standing tall.
