I never think too long on questions like that .... I came home in '65 after my three year RA enlistment and promptly did everything I could to forget.
Sex, drugs n' rock n' roll was my life until 1981 when I met Jesus.
I was not in country, so I never formed a brother bond like many men have, so there is no one man I remember better than another .... we were all just in the Army and glad to get out when we did.
I'm old now.
And I remember more than I want almost all the time.
oops .... released in ‘68, not ‘65
You said:
I’m old now.
And I remember more than I want almost all the time...
I will pray that God allows you more peace in your older years. You deserve that.
Some of us here may consider ourselves getting old (i’m 51) but I know I’m FAR FROM not needing good advice anymore. Or not needing to learn new things.
Guys like you bring that to the board.
I think vets see life more clearly than most folks.
What’s important and what’s not.
This day’s for you.
And God Bless 2nddivisionvet today. One vet that is celebrating this one in a better place.
I was taking a hike on the big flat near the beach at a local lake last Wednesday. I met another man there who I found out had been a Marine too. As we were standing there talking, two A-10 Warthogs buzzed us. The leader was so low we could almost see him smiling as he slipped his plane to not pass directly over us. That was as close to a flying airplane I’ve ever been. I was in the Second Marine Air Wing. Our own personal air show, what a special experience.
My favorite Marine aviator....

Now THIS lovely lady appears to be ready for a party at THAT time ....
Jus' observin' .... tha's all.
I always hoped I gave as much as I got but with folks losing lives and limbs you shouldn't get too full of yourself.
Second Veteran's Day without my favorite Vet. SSG, Drill Sgt, Best Welder I ever knew. Best wife a man could ever want.
17 in, barely 20 out.
Many Veterans are listed on FReeRepublic’s Memorial Wall.
17 in, retired at 37 as 1SG
Viet Nam was a mess and the morons in Washington responsible should be ashamed. Our fighting forces deserve better.
Our fighting forces have saved many from many evils and I am grateful for that. I thank all veterans and their families for their sacrifices.
U.S. Army 91Alpha combat medic (MOS has since been renamed)1985-1993 . Hot water and plumbing along with an abundant food supply and the ability to obtain your own property are just a few of the basics we all take for granted , I do not . I was able to work with some great Americans who taught me volumes about weaponry , how to live in the field with minimal footprint (even though we were a mechanized division . Our forefathers spilled their blood so that we as a free representative republic could progress and lead a free life within a beautiful land that only God could have allocated . Stop and think , we are typing on a computer communicating while enjoying a cup of tea or coffee . This now common act would never have been thought of as the norm by our ancestors . Gone are the time consuming daily labor’s which used to consume many hours of the day and they needed to be done no matter the weather or how you felt . I am of the belief that every male should have to serve in the Armed forces so as to be able to appreciate the strength and sacrifices past generations have made for us rather than repeating the now worn phrase “Thanks for your service.” I love seeing our flag waving in the wind and I thank God our father for allowing me to be born in a God fearing nation that fed, clothed, protected and educated me . All of these things I mention (and they are just a few)would never have ocurred if it weren’t for the blood, sweat and tears of Americans who saw more than most see now . Take the time to sincerely express your gratitude to a veteran the next time you come across one say , with a simple conversation or a kind act ....it will show that the Vet’s efforts were not in vain . And never forget how BEAUTIFUL our flag is and there is NO other nation as imperfectly beautiful as the United states of America , One nation under GOD .
Air Force, 6 active, 24 reserves. Son of an Air Force fighter pilot (E1 - O5, Aviation Cadet Program). Thanks for your service (we know ATODAYs the day to say that, not Memorial Day).
Colonel, USAF (ret)
Next Monday will be 50 years since I raised my hand, 4 months later I found myself 8,744 miles from home on a hill called FOB Bastogne in the A Shau valley with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Mobile). Didn’t quite make it a full tour before myself and about a dozen others walked into a hot mess. 3 of us went down when they opened up on us. We fought for two hours before we could get help, the fighting was so close we couldn’t call in ARTY or air support. When we got back we had two KIA’s and one wounded. Two of buddies took direct fire and went down instantly, I received fragmentation wounds in the back and legs from a Grenade or RPG. Not long after that I left country. I’ve stayed in touch with the guys for a long time, we even managed to get together a couple of times. Today there is only three of us remaining. Rondo lives about 35 miles from here and we’ll be having lunch today, Shelly now lives in Sun City Center Fla and he’ll receive a call from us both. We’ll keep doing this until it’s all over, with each of us fearing who will be the last. I saw some true hero’s that day!
A little over 20-years in the Air Force.
Fighter pilotthe A-10 and F-15E.
Combat as a ground FAC with the 101st.
6-months aboard the USS LaSalle in the Persian Gulf.
Combat ops as a Fighter Pilot, mid-East region.
Pentagon gunrunner.
I did what I knew I was born to do, my calling.
It was not a job, it was my purpose bestowed by God. (Sounds corny but true.)
I thank the American public for paying me to learn to fly jets, and I thank the American public for allowing me to fly jets and engage in other opportunities to serve this Great Nation.
USAF 7 years during Nam....
Yeah that fits...
Saaa lute!
>>>until 1981 when I met Jesus.<<<
Now you truly are one of the few! I was saved in 1976 and I so grateful to the Holy Spirit for His conviction which showed me my need for a Saviour.
