Smuggling gangs in Mexico have repeatedly sawed through new sections of President Trumps border wall in recent months by using commercially available power tools, opening gaps large enough for people and drug loads to pass through, according to U.S. agents and officials with knowledge of the damage.
The breaches have been made using a popular cordless household tool known as a reciprocating saw that retails at hardware stores for as little as $100. When fitted with specialized blades, the saws can slice through one of the barriers steel-and-concrete bollards in a matter of minutes, according to the agents, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the barrier-defeating techniques.
After cutting through the base of a single bollard, smugglers can push the steel out of the way, allowing an adult to fit through the gap. Because the bollards are so tall and are attached only to a panel at the very top their length makes them easier to push aside once they have been cut and are left dangling, according to engineers consulted by The Washington Post.

Sawzall $129.00
Any barrier can be gotten through eventually. Unless we’re going to man them like castle walls this is the game we’ll be playing with this wall forever. They’ll break it, we’ll repair it, they’ll break it again, we repair again. Do Lung Bridge.
WP Cheering and hoping for failure. This is obviously a solvable problem
My first thought too. Recip saws don’t cut major steel.
Have you ever done cost-benefit analysis?
If you haven’t, you’re probably buried in student loan debt.
There is no such thing as a perfect wall extending thousands of miles, no matter how much money you spend per mile.
That’s why we have sensors on the wall, drones overhead and the border patrol.
SO how much money SHOULD we spend per mile for a wall that still won’t be perfect no matter how perfect you think you are?
“Motion sensitive explosives in these areas should prove advantageous”.
Yes! and post signs that say “WARNING: EXPLOSIVES” Or something to that effect.
These must be desperate mommas wanting to work hard in America to provide their children with a better life who are sawing through the steel bars.
Think of the noise generated trying to saw through concrete and steel. Simple acoustic sensors would be needed.
Build platforms every 200 yards and M2 it.
LMAO! Go get a piece of pipe fill it with concrete and set to it with a cutting torch. See what happens.
OK WaPo— send a photographer to photo the “holes” cause they don’t repair them if there are any.
Show the holes, Show the holes. The steel in the bollards can not be cut with any commercially available cutting blades in a freaking reciprocating saw-— sheesh. “Jaws of Life” can’t even bend them, and there are... sensors on the sections.
Either way-— prove what you say Bezo the Slave Owner of the ceeeeee eyyyye AAAAAAA “investment subsidy” business genius— not!
It all depends on the blade.
The only thing that would work is shooting anyone forcing a way through.
i wonder sometimes what would happen if we stopped reading or posting WPost, NYT, CNN, and the rest of the extreme leftist propaganda outlets ?
just wondering, not sure what to suggest
tho it would reduce moi blood pressure, smile smile smile
Better than nothing, but not nearly good enough.
You are correct to not trust the compost on this story, but the earlier post that it was an “arms race” of sorts is also correct.
The wall is a necessary and cost effective tool in the battle to secure the border. It will never be foolproof or impenetrable. Trump tends to use hyperbolic language and most of us understand it and know that is how he communicates. The left uses it to say he tells thousands of lies.....
It is why we can never have a reasoned conversation with them - see Acosta’s live reporting from the wall for a laugh. They will use it to declare the entire wall is ineffective and that is ridiculous. It is also ridiculous to not understand the role and abilities of the wall on our side.
With that said, every mile of wall we build is a great piece of border security!
Worth reading the whole article. It touches on nearly every point that’s been brought up in this thread.
The planners knew from the beginning that a steel bollard wall could be breached by cutting with power tools. All walls can be breached one way or another. During development the engineering studies estimated it would take between 15 and 30 minutes to cut through a bollard using a battery powered reciprocating saw, and about half that if you have two saws cutting from opposite sides and meeting in the middle. The point of the wall isn’t to be totally impervious but to require enough time to cut that the smugglers can be detected and apprehended. So far the successful breaches have happened mainly in areas where the detection equipment hasn’t been installed yet.
WaPo? FR has more than it's share of bolshevik cheerleaders.
