As a candidate, Lamb ran on a moderating message and avoided any support for impeachment. He benefited largely from union family support, something his Republican opponents were unable to capitalize on in the same way that President Trump did when he won the district by 2.5 percentage points.
On Thursday, Lamb cast a yes vote for an impeachment inquiry of the president.
Since the beginning of the 116th Congress, Lamb has voted over 90% of the time against legislation backed by Trump, which is probably why Trump publicly urged Parnell to challenge Lamb when he was speaking at the Shale Insight conference in Pittsburgh last week.
“It looks like PA 17 is going to have a true race in 2020,” said Jeff Brauer, political science professor at Keystone College.
“This race very well could become a bellwether race that will draw national interest and attention,” he said.
In short, if Parnell is ahead or closing in on Lamb for the western Pennsylvania seat, then Trump will likely win the Keystone State at the top of the ticket. Democratic presidential candidates cannot win Pennsylvania without western Pennsylvania support, and they cannot win the presidency without Pennsylvania.
This past week, Lamb voted with the Democrats on a Republican effort to prevent future presidents from banning fracking, a game-changing economic driver in western Pennsylvania.
Brauer said Parnell can also run as a Washington outsider, as he has not run for office before. “Therefore, he can contrast himself to the Lamb family political dynasty. In many ways, Lamb will meet his match with Parnell,” he said.

Likewise! I hate it when vets are Democrats, since the Democrat Party are traitors! The vets always have to lie to get elected.
Parnell is a decorated war hero. He’ll expose Lamb’s liberal track record and anti-Trump animus to district voters.
Lamb can’t run as a moderate and he’ll be buried next November.
Lamb lied to the district’s voters. He now has a track record and he has to defend it.

I hope people are paying attention and turning “thumbs down” on military veterans running for ANY political office. We’ve been burned in the past couple of years and we should be saying - your military service means nothing when you’re a politician and we’re not falling for it. Crenshaw and Kinzinger are two examples while Senator Cotton has proven to be authentic...we just can’t take it on faith any longer.
Any veteran or current military member who is a Democrat has a self hate/destruct complex. (Retired Army Officer)
I live in Western Pennsylvania and I am in the district next to Lamb’s. I am stuck with Pelosi’s butt boy communist Doyle which no one can beat because Doyle’s district includes the city of Pittsburgh. I can tell you in my district 20 miles to the east of the city of Pittsburgh is boiling mad at what is going on now. Trump will pull a lot of votes here. I also believe that next Tuesday will be used as a referendum on the Democrats and many local and state Democrats will lose and pay the price for Pelosi’s lies and criminal behavior.
I hope Parnell will beat this Lamb fraud like a drum. Lamb ran as a middle-of-the-roader, then turned predictably left. Maybe Lamb won’t be able to fool PA voters again.
