McConnell: Impeachment measure denies Trump 'basic rights'

WASHINGTON — The impeachment resolution pushed by House Democrats would deny President Donald Trump the "most basic rights of due process," the Senate's top Republican said Wednesday, sharply criticizing the leaders behind the measure.

This resolution by Pelosi basically stiffs the draft resolution on due process that's supported by McConnell and at least 49 other Senators. Looks to me like a clear warning by McConnell that the House can expect any articles of impeachment it may send to the Senate to be dismissed because the underlying process totally violated the President's, and the Presidency's due process rights.

The Rats will change a couple words and bash Republicans for not accepting this.

Reminds me of the massive propaganda campaign for the Fraud’s giving his terorist BFF’s in Iran a planeload of unmarked cash, defended by so many here as “it’s their money anyway”.

I don’t get to say this very often, so for now, good for McConnell.

Hey Turtle listen up, you should of said:

I wish they would hurry up because Adam Schiff and Nancy Peolosi and all of their Staff will be my first witnesses and quite frankly I can’t wait to see what they have to say Under Oath in Public about quite a few disturbing events that have transpired.

The Impeachment proceedings will get slammed to the ground if/when it makes it to the Senate. This is where we expect fair treatment.

However, I would like a long drawn out process where every Democrat talking point is completely discredited with the American people watching as it is ripped to pieces.

We should not allow the Dems off with an “only kidding” excuse, too. They initiated this process — I like the expression: “mess with the bull you get the horns.”

Like him or not, McConnell is sly. He can put a stop to this BS when the time is right.

Many if not most Democrats believe that their talking points are all 100% accurate, that the Mueller report did find evidence of collusion within the Trump administration, and that everything in the Steele dossier is true, down to the last comma.

McConnell might be an unreliable ally for Trump in a lot of legislative matters, but when it comes to taking it to the Democrats, he shows up pretty strong.

It must be safe for Turtle to come out.
Almost always a good sign the RATS have over played their hand.

You're probably right. In that regard these moves by Pelosi et. al. are not too smart. They are handing the Senate a get out of jail free card here. They can easily dismiss anything officially sent over (ha, if that ever happens) on procedural grounds without ever having to touch on the issue of guilt. In short the rejection/dismissal becomes about the House and the shenanigans committed there rather than anything to do with the President.

This reason combined with others such as Pelosi's obvious lack of enthusiasm for a formal impeachment vote mark this whole stinking mess as nothing but a cheap (well, expensive waste of taxpayer dollars) political stunt. I'll say it right here, right now. There will be no impeachment. Pelosi and her cohorts in crime only want a platform to continue to sling unsubstantiated mud at President Trump in the form of innuendo and one-sided leaks. Why to you think the GOP is being literally locked out of most of this BS?

If the American people cannot see that these leftist/fascist {censored} need to be thrown out then maybe they'll never get it. But the likes of Pelosi, Clinton, obama, Holder, Harris, AOC... They are a disgrace, an utter disgrace to the men and women who preceded them.

Well then, it will get a full hearing in the Senate.

Lets hope that the passive type Republicans in the Senate, like ‘ol Mit Romney, are ready for a tooth and nail scrapping fight.

Or maybe they will cower away softly and passively and let the Democrats run the show... because the Romney types believe it is the right thing for the country or some BS line like that.

House Democrats’ impeachment resolution would just codify their unfair process. Here’s what it contemplates:

1. No due process now
2. Maybe some later
3. But only if they feel like it

No American, the president or anyone else, should be subjected to this kind of unfairness.— Leader McConnell (@senatemajldr) October 30, 2019

The rich and powerful should not be above the law.

But neither should they be below it.

The law should treat everyone equally, and since Due Process is not only part of our legal tradition going back many hundreds of years, but is enshrined as a basic right that cannot be denied in the Constitution, then Donald Trump is entitled to it - the same as anyone else who is the subject of any kind of law enforcement, investigatory or judicial proceeding.

“so it would be dismissed if it ever reaches the Senate”

I have not heard anyone with any authority say that. After the House votes to impeach Trump they will send over the articles and the Senate will conduct a trial that will last for weeks.

What you are stating however is exactly what should happen.
