Amazonian States Want $30 Billion In Ecological Reparations From ‘Rich Countries’
Breitbart ^ | 10-30-2019 | Thomas D. Williams, Ph.D.

ROME — A group of regional leaders from the Amazon proposed Monday at the Vatican that rich nations be compelled to indemnify them for environmental damage caused in the so-called “lung of the planet.”

Gathered for the Vatican’s Pan-Amazonian Synod, Brazilian governors as well as regional governments of other Amazon countries held a special summit at the Pontifical Academy for Sciences Monday, in which they insisted that the Amazon is a natural carbon sink that releases oxygen for the whole world and they deserve compensation for it.

Governor Wellington Dias of the Brazilian state of Piauí proposed the creation of the Pan-American Permanent Forum for the Defense of the Amazon, which met with unanimous approval by the other governors and participants.

“Science points to a great risk of climate change on the planet and there is a need to address this issue more swiftly,” Mr. Dias said. “Brazil, as a country that captures carbon dioxide and emits oxygen, has an estimated $30 billion in receivables.”

The payments, Dias said, would go into a financial fund to address the damage caused to the environment by the “rich countries,” which with high levels of consumption are the most responsible for the emission of greenhouse gases on the planet.

“The world had, throughout its history, a development model focused on deforestation, on the destruction of nature,” Dias said. “Yet historically, Europe, and even here in the Vatican, was covered in forests.”

At the end of Monday’s summit, the regional leaders published a declaration, which they also sent to Pope Francis, outlining their proposal for the “sustainable development of the Amazon.”

“Rich countries must expand their financing commitments to recognize the value of Amazonian environmental services, which benefit all mankind, and are maintained by the Amazon,” the declaration states

***rich nations be compelled to indemnify them for environmental damage caused in the so-called “lung of the planet.” **

Shakedown. Remember the 1970s and the failed trans-Amazon highway? Before they could complete the next section of it, the rain forest had reclaimed the paved sections. It is nothing but a mud track through parts of the jungle now.

Rich countries? How about going after the ones that pollute the most? Good luck getting “compensation” from the Chinese!

they insisted that the Amazon is a natural carbon sink that releases oxygen for the whole world and they deserve compensation for it.

Some things such as oxygen in the air, wind, and rainfall, are material goods, but insofar that they come to us automatically, without any need for labor or effort by humans, to cause their existence or our benefit from them, they are free goods and are outside the domain of economic activity and of economics.

We all want Brazil to stop being the moral cesspit of the world but that aint gonna happen either.

Kansas winter wheat and milo converts more CO2 into oxygen than the Amazon rain forest so they can just pound sand in their bleached assholes as far as I care.

Latin Americans are enamored of socialism. They yell and scream and riot for it and when they get it and it fails, as it always does, they yell and scream for more. And when it fails again they pick themselves up and they come stampeding here with an arrogant and pugnacious sense of entitlement as if we had something to do with their poor decisions.

The problem is that if the Dems take over the U.S. Government, they would write off the 30 billion as a down payment, and negotiate away trillions to third world despot leaders that will get into the coffers of Soros and effectively end our constitutional Republic, which will then trigger the destruction of democratic principles worldwide.

So let me get this straight ...

I go out and cut down a bunch of trees in my back yard to plant a garden, and I sell the trees to you for lumber ...

... and I expect you to take me seriously when I come back 20 years later and demand that you PAY ME AGAIN to compensate me for cutting down my trees?
