They see the trend, want to have some input into the change
Great news.
Let these kids make money off their skill sets and their own name.
California forced their hand. On this issue I agree with California
Thanks for the post.
I agree completely.
Why is it that the NCAA has to be dragged kicking and screaming into reality and fairness?
You beat my post by a couple of minutes LOL!!!!
The author with the fewest responses owes the Freepathon a $20 donation.
I’m fine with them making money off their likenesses, etc. HOWEVER, any money they earn should go to pay off their scholarship money first.
They had no choice.
Congress was getting ready to cram this down their piehole.
Ok.....then start raising academic records for admission and eligibility
I’m not interested in watching marginal or less “students” make $$$ when they wouldn’t have been admitted otherwise
Let them go juco or small school and then transfer if they give a damn about academics
Good. Now make them pay for their college - no more free rides.
I get the pros of the issue but I think sports as we know it is dying. So whats next, the unionizing of college players? We will soon hear about women and their pay “inequality”. So if this is going to happen,we need to eliminate scholarships and these athletes can just get their “living wage”.
Of the big 4 sports in the US/Canada the two oldest, baseball and hockey, developed pro leagues and farm leagues before they became big college sports and these have survived to this day, (minor league baseball and junior hockey).
The other 2 sports, football and basketball, were big college sports before they became big pro sports and hence a suitable farm league system never developed. Both sports are mostly happy to see the existing system continue as it would be difficult to build equivalent minor leagues from scratch.
Whats their cut? 20% off the top?
It is an institution that should be eliminated.
I don’t think this is going to keep one college athlete who is capable of turning pro early from leaving college to do just that.
That is the first step to paying amateur athletes - the door is now open for more.
Only a small fraction of NCAA athletes turn pro. If compensation becomes mandatory, many small school will drop sports for lack of funding.
Taxable. The schools will have to produce 1099s for earnings.
Fair enough, if they must reimburse the college for the cost of any athletic scholarships they receive.
Gee, how much does the NCAA owe me since 1966 when my picture appeared in a Philadelphia newspaper when I was going to get an MVP trophy from Jessie Owens? The pic had him with his hand on my shoulder while he talked to us awardees before the ceremony.
They must owe me at least $1.50.
Re my ego, it was worth a million bucks to be honored by this gentleman.
