The US forces Somalia beach landing, with CNN,etc and their bright lights greeting them, was in Dec 1992, still during the Bush 1 Administration. What a fiasco.
If I remember correctly, someone in the United Nations Command in Somalia informed the press about the landing of the Marines. You may not like GHW Bush, but you can’t blame him for “blabbing.” I was serving in Army intel in DC at the time, and a few years later talked with one of my fellow Army historians who was in Somalia, as a reserve officer, when it happened.
