Trump trolls Kamala over skipping event because of him and he appears to hit a nerve

President Trump slammed Sen. Kamala Harris for her cowardly decision to skip a planned speech at a historically black college because he was honored with an award there.

Trump sparked a war of words with the California Democrat, calling her a “badly failing presidential candidate” after she withdrew from a forum at Benedict College in South Carolina where the president was honored for getting a highly praised criminal justice reform bill passed last year.

Harris would not be going “to a very wonderful largely African American event today because yesterday I [received] a major award, at the same event, for being able to produce & sign into law major Criminal Justice Reform legislation,” Trump tweeted Saturday, referring to the First Step Act.

“This and best unemployment numbers EVER is more than Kamala will EVER be able to do for African Americans!” he added.

….greatly help the African American community (and all other communities), and which was unable to get done in past administrations despite a tremendous desire for it. This and best unemployment numbers EVER is more than Kamala will EVER be able to do for African Americans!

The 2019 Second Step Presidential Justice Forum at Benedict College was scheduled to have Harris speak on Saturday, but the former California Attorney General backed out Friday, citing Trump in her decision.

“As the only candidate who attended a [historically black college or university], I know the importance that these spaces hold for young Black Americans,” Harris said in a statement.

“Today, when it became clear Donald Trump would receive an award after decades of celebrating mass incarceration, pushing the death penalty for innocent Black Americans, rolling back police accountability measures and racist behavior that puts people’s lives at risk,” she added. “I cannot in good faith be complicit in papering over his record.”

Instead, the 2020 hopeful announced she would hold a criminal justice roundtable with students from the Columbia, S.C. area, though other 2020 hopefuls were still planning to attend.

Candidates who are scheduled to attend the forum tomorrow and Sunday: Delaney, Booker, Buttigieg, Warren, Klobuchar, Biden, Sanders, Castro, Gabbard

Harris was scheduled for 2pm tomorrow – her new event will be held at the same time at a different location, to be announced

Saturday’s takedown from Trump prompted a reply from the lawmaker.

“My whole life I’ve fought for justice and for the people — something you’d know nothing about. The only part of criminal justice you can claim credit for is the ‘criminal’ part,” she tweeted.

Conservative activist and outspoken Trump supporter, Scott Presler, gave the congresswoman a reality check.

while giving sanctuary cities to illegal aliens.

You don’t care about black lives — you locked them up.

Meanwhile, Trump was awarded the Bipartisan Justice Award from the 20/20 Bipartisan Justice Center, which previously bestowed the honor on Harris and South Carolina Republican Senator Tim Scott.

South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham touted Trump’s speech at the forum “the best domestic policy speech of his presidency.”

It’s my belief that President @realDonaldTrump delivered the best domestic policy speech of his presidency today as he talked about the impact criminal justice reform, combined with a strong economy, can have on America.https://t.co/eh68mdD6Xw

While Harris had predictable praise from her supporters for her decision, others agreed with the president, including CNN’s Van Jones who, responding to Sen. Cory Booker’s confirmation that he would be attending the forum, criticized Harris for “running away.”

Many Twitter users agreed with the criticism.

Taking her ball andgoing home. She’d be a mature President…NOT.

That’s a step in the right direction, hopefully next she pulls out of the presidential race.

After seeing what a warm reception and true gratitude he was given here, she should be terribly embarrassed….obviously, she wasn’t speaking on behalf of the attendees…..beautiful, heartwarming stories, and much love for the president.

Kamala makes it about her and Trump instead of the organization putting on the event. It is disrespectful to the organization.

— NWOregon (@NWOregon) October 26, 2019

Kamala Harris at a criminal justice reform event would be too funny

— Phil Owens (@Pobaldy) October 26, 2019

They loved President Trump! Kamala made a big mistake by confirming that Democrats are not there for them, but only feel entitled to their vote.

She’s a failing candidate alright - since Tulsi Gabbard took her down.

Her candidacy has zero rationale apart from hate-mongering, pandering and hysterical shrillness up the max.

Harris will never accomplish anything in her small life other than to make the President look bigger than her.

Good riddance!

Geeez, Mr. President, it isn't always about you (although that is the way to bet!)

Kamala simply thought it was Benedict Arnold College.

When she realized it had nothing to do with him, she lost interest...

IOW, #1, Harris was lying, and #2, President Trump didn't "spark a war of words" -- Kameltoe did it, by lying. Badly failing is a bit of an understatement, though it is accurate. Thanks Marv.
