It was spirituality that saved my life at that age, and I think the rise in secularism and the confusion about God and meaning is fueling this increase in suicides. There are always going to be dysfunctional families, and anxiety, self-doubt, and confusion in young lives. Knowing that there is a meaning beyond yourself, and a meaning to your life beyond the secular world, is a crucial saving grace.

Social media is creating impossible ideals for kids.
They see a social media 'influencer' on youtube, facebook, twitter, instagram et. al. and they believe their lives are boring, they're ugly, they don't have millions of 'friends' (followers), et. al.
The average kid is inundated with impossible standards they know they'll never achieve.
Without ADULTS to tone down the messages of fear and talk to them about rational expections it's not unreasonable for some kids to see their future as hopeless.
Can you image what it's like for a young child coming home from school where your teacher is telling you the world is going to end because Republicans and President Trump won't do anything to stop climate change and your parents agree with your teacher?
