Pennsylvania’s gas politics churn as Trump embraces industry
Associated Press ^ | October 23, 2019 | Marc Levy

For a second time in three months, President Donald Trump is headed to Pennsylvania to promote his support for the natural gas industry, making clear that he sees his pro-industry policies as a boost to his chances of winning the battleground state.

As some of his leading Democratic opponents are calling for a fracking ban, Trump has been eager to cut a contrast, touting his support for a sector he says brings economic benefits to rural pockets and jobs to construction union workers.

But pipeline politics might not be so clear-cut.

In the suburbs that might be key to his path to victory, Pennsylvania voters have shown a growing opposition to the drilling and massive pipelines required to move its product across the state. Candidates in state and local races are increasingly hardening their stances on the industry. National polling shows growing skepticism of fracking, the process used in extraction. […]

On Wednesday, Trump will speak to a conference in Pittsburgh, a corporate hub of activity in the Marcellus Shale, the nation’s most prolific natural gas reservoir.

Going to the Pittsburgh conference gives Trump the ability to pitch to an industry and a region — western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio and West Virginia — that help make up “what some would call his base,” said Dave Spigelmyer, president of the Marcellus Shale Coalition, a trade group that’s co-sponsoring the event. …

What a load of hooey... PA is not anti Natural Gas... Hell you want to see what being anti natural gas looks like go over the border to NY where they refuse to allow the shale to be easily extracted.

Upstate and rural new york is a wasteland compared to PA...

This author is a moron or a liar, or both.

Trump IS NOT LOSING SUPPORT IN PA... he’s gaining support just like he is everywhere else.

New York refuses to allow a natural gas pipeline to cross a few miles of its southern tier into Connecticut, thereby cutting New England off and forcing them to burn expensive, higher carbon emissions, heating oil. Smart move, those New Yorkers.

MASSIVE PIPELINES... what Horse manure the AP is now. Trump is not pro-natural gas be cause it will get him votes, he is pro gas because it is great for America. The AP pathological liarsnthat they are only judge what they call the truth by what they personally get out of it. They are totally incapable of understanding someone who does something by what is right, or truth by its stand alone reality.

Hooey is right!

This state was dead on its economic arse before fracking. It will return to that condition if it is stopped. We who live here are subjected to daily propaganda barrages on how it is destroying our health, causing earthquakes, getting dogs and cats to live together and all other horrors. Truth is it’s been a huge boon. The places where they are banning it are the usual suspects that are populated by NIMBY Leftists.

Trump will not even be here for a few hours, and already the Pittsburgh Police are out in riot gear battling with nutso protesters. And today major roadways were shut down after a fake bomb was found under a bridge along Trump’s route.

National polling 1860 think slavery should be allowed in Southern States(was really true) and Negros are a different species

I am never amazed at the stupidity of our fellow Americans. Most are talking apes living paycheck to paycheck flat broke, huffing on their e-cigarettes, planning their next alcohol fueled two weeks down at the Outer Banks, rutting like deer in November and watching porn or America's Got Talent on their financed 50" flat screen. A nation of mostly imbeciles with about 1/3 awake with a working frontal cortex. Disagree, head down to Walmart

Really? I live in suburban Philly. Most suburban folks are just happy that their winter heating bills have stabilized.

We have a few here in even suburban Pittsburgh who buy into the anti-fracking and cancer cluster hype. We also had just over 32% of voters here in Westmoreland County who were dumb enough to vote for Hillary.

But over all, we produced 128% of the vote margin needed to put Trump over the top in this Commonwealth and past the 270 electoral vote margin. It was nice to be proud of Pennsylvania for a change.

New Mexico's ABQ Journal printed the same article in its entirety ( Pennsylvania’s gas politics churn as Trump embraces industry ). No doubt the anti-fossil fuel activists in ABQ and Santa Fe (including all of state government) will take the article and highlight it as another example as to why oil and natural gas production in SE New Mexico is bad, in this case to the local population (except of course for the billions of dollars it puts into state coffers [35% and $1 billion surplus this year]).
