It was Senator Trent Lott that would not allow a fair Senate proceedings.

Which many say Trent Lott was compromised.

The senate actually did have a trial of Clinton on two articles of impeachment

For about six weeks in January and February 1999 it took place

The only thing not public was the deliberations the last three days before the vote

Neither article received 67 votes ...the required number to convict and remove from office

45 on one article and 55 on another to convict
